When the Chamber of Commerce and CLEDO, along with the mall developer, released the vision for the old mall site, it came with both positive and negative feedback. We think the before and after pictures show the positive impact this development has on our community.

Our recently redeveloped mall has quickly become a major asset to our city. With significantly increased traffic and a noticeable rise in visitors, the improvements are contributing to renewed economic activity and a stronger local presence.

This growth is a positive step for our businesses, our residents, and the future of our community and we encourage everyone to take pride in the momentum our city is building.

Three Community Projects in Logansport have been updated...

Yesterday, a couple of projects moved forward at the Logansport Redevelopment Commission (LRC) meeting.

Race Street property: 3 parcels consisting of 1.097 acres (riverfront property west of Vibrant Event Center to the former LU coal plant: $86,000 purchase price offering from AVARIS GROUP was awarded by LRC on 9/4/25. The property will be developed into a Cobblestone Hotel with 54 guest rooms, complemented by a wine & beer bar and hotel-style breakfast service, together with an indoor pool, fitness room, meeting room, and lobby gathering space. The anticipated investment is $10,358,500 with construction beginning in spring 2026.

Eastgate Lot #1 consisting of .53 acres (parking lot just south of Speedway gas station): $151,000 purchase price offering from Hasmukh Patel was awarded by LRC on 9/4/25. The property will be developed into a Tropical Smoothie Café franchise. The permitting, design, and construction period is estimated to take 12 months.

At their previous meeting last week, the Redevelopment Commission also discussed a partnership with Center Career Center to rehab homes. The work will be completed by the construction pathway students at the CCC and the acquisition cost and materials will be paid for by LRC. This will give the CCC students hands-on skills training to better equip them for their careers after high school. Any profits received after resale of the homes will be used for scholarships at the CCC. Further details are being worked on by the CCC and CLEDO/Chamber.

CCCF RECEIVES $5,000,000 GRANT FOR COMMUNITY PROJECT

We are grateful beyond belief that our $5,000,000 proposal for a permanent structure for the Farmers Market, an incubator commercial kitchen, and gardening plots has been approved by Lilly Endowment Inc. This grant will transform our downtown and we will share more details as we get them!

The Cass County Community Foundation has received a grant of
$5 million from Lilly Endowment Inc. through the Community Leadership Implementation Grants component of the eighth phase of its Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT VIII) initiative. This is one of 30 implementation grants being awarded through GIFT VIII, a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative designed to support the efforts of community foundations and their partners to strengthen quality of life for the people in the towns, cities, counties, and regions they serve.

With the grant, the Cass County Community Foundation will be collaborating with our partners to construct a permanent farmer’s market, commercial incubator kitchen and community gardening plots.

CCCF President & CEO Deanna Crispen stated, “This grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. is truly a blessing to our entire community and the result of hours of planning, multiple partners, and community meetings. We are inspired by the community support and the outstanding support of Lilly Endowment. This project is the next step in moving our downtown and community forward.”

In 1990, Lilly Endowment launched the Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) initiative to help establish and further develop community foundations throughout Indiana. Lilly Endowment hoped that Indiana’s community foundations could enhance the quality of life in their communities by convening conversations among people of diverse ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, occupations, races and cultural traditions about their communities’ most compelling needs and opportunities as well as the best ways to address them.

Lilly Endowment Inc. is an Indianapolis-based private foundation created in 1937 by J.K. Lilly, Sr. and his sons Eli and J.K. Jr. through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company. Although the gifts of stock remain a financial bedrock of the Endowment, it is a separate entity from the company, with a distinct governing board, staff and location. In keeping with the founders’ wishes, the Endowment supports the causes of community development, education and religion. The Endowment funds programs throughout the United States, especially in the field of religion, and maintains a special commitment to its founders’ hometown, Indianapolis, and home state, Indiana.
