Today B Shift crews conducted hose testing. Every year, every section of hose, from every apparatus and in our storage area must go through a timed pressure test where it must be able to hold water at that pressure without any leaks. This ensures safety for our firefighters as well as making sure our most valuable resource on the fire ground is up to standards.

This is why you Close Before You Doze! Closed doors can help contain a fire to the room of origin, help prevent fire spread, and give you and your family more time to escape!

This morning, 5/29 at approximately 6:11 a.m. the Knox-Center Township Fire Department was dispatched to assist the Bass Lake California Township Fire Department with a reported residential structure fire. Due to the homeowner keeping the door to the fire room closed, the fire was contained to a single room and there was minimal damage done to the rest of the structure.

As we enter into Memorial Day weekend, it is important to honor those who have come before us. For us at Local 470, that means the men who have come before us in the brotherhood of the fire service. This past week, members of Local 470, along with retired Firefighter Mike Rush, went to 94 different grave sites of the men who paved the way on the Logansport Fire Department and placed flags to represent our appreciation for their service and their impact on our department. This has been an important tradition for decades on our department and one we will continue every year.

Did you know? Logansport Firefighters are responsible for all of our own landscaping and yard work. Today B Shift Crews gave central fire station some much needed care! Not only do we get to exercise our pride for our beautiful station, but we also ease tax payer funding by not contracting out landscaping and yard work.

Our goal is to give Logansport a Fire Station the community can be proud of as they drive by, as we strive to maintain this beautiful firehouse both inside and out! Big thanks to the Logansport Street Department for allowing us to use a trailer to remove our yard waste!

Today, A Shift crews had a very productive and important Saturday. In addition to our regular station duties and emergency call responses, crews were able to participate in 2 important events in our community. We went to Riverside Park to participate in Habitat for Humanity of Cass County’s carnival, where we allowed children and other members of our community see our trucks and equipment up close and personal, and find out a little more about what we do. After that, crews were able to head to Cedar Creek of Logansport and enjoy some quality time and conversations with the residents and staff at one of the best facilities in our county! Thank you to both organizations for allowing us to be involved! On top of that, members of our department also participated in a state level surface water course, as instructors/ evaluators and as students at Rochester Fire Department. Is it our goal to always strive to go the extra mile for our wonderful community and those who live in and around it!
