🥵 EXTREME HEAT ADVISORY – COOLING STATIONS NOW OPEN

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for our area, with heat index values (“feels like” temperatures) expected to exceed 120° in DeSoto Parish. These dangerously high temperatures can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for the elderly, young children, and those working or spending extended time outdoors.

To help ensure the safety of our residents, the following Cooling Stations are available daily from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM:

• DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office – Main Office (Mansfield)
• DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office – Logansport Substation
• DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office – Stonewall Substation
• Fire District 1 Central Office – Marshall Road
• Fire District 8 Central Office – Highway 175
• Fire District 9 – Frierson
• Fire District 3 – Stonewall

These cooling stations will remain open each day until temperatures return to safer levels.
We also encourage everyone to take a few moments to check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may be especially vulnerable to the heat. A simple phone call or visit could make all the difference.

If you or someone you know is in need of assistance due to the extreme heat—whether transportation to a cooling station or another heat-related concern—please do not hesitate to contact the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office. If assistance is needed outside of the operating hours listed above, we encourage you to contact our office so we can help determine the safest course of action.

Please stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity whenever possible, never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, and take this extreme heat seriously.

The river area in red will be closing within an hour. There is a white marker on the river near the water intake that indicates the start of the closure to the bridges. Please make sure you are on the side of the closure you’d like to be on before it closes. It will remain closed 30-45 minutes after the show.

We are making good progress and will post an exact time closer to show time!

we would like to wish everyone a happy 4th of July. Our crews are out on the river bright and early this morning setting up for the largest fireworks display that Logansport has ever had as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Please enjoy your holiday and be mindful of our crews working around the river front and surrounding areas to bring this show to life for your enjoyment this evening. Fireworks will be after dark. Please follow our page for more details and a definite show time as we make progress through out the day. Once everything is ready to go and fire Marshall inspections are complete we will publish a more precise start time with at least a few hours notice before the show.
