🚒 Commissioners Corner 🚒
LVFD is proud to have Jim Renner serving as a commissioner for nearly a decade...8 years, but who's counting!
While Jim has never served on the department as a firefighter, he saw a need and stepped up to serve our community in a different but equally important way. A longtime Loleta dairyman, Jim recently retired after many years of hard work and dedication.
We are grateful for the time, commitment, and support he continues to give our department. Thank you, Jim, for helping keep LVFD moving forward!

Tool Highlight: The Jaws 🛠️🚒

When seconds count, this tool is a firefighter’s best friend. Officially known as hydraulic spreaders and cutters, most folks know them simply as the Jaws—and for good reason.

With powerful hydraulic force, these tools can pry open twisted metal, cut through doors, or create space to safely remove someone trapped in a vehicle after an accident. They’re built for precision, speed, and strength—helping us do in seconds what would otherwise take much longer.

They may not breathe fire or shoot water, but the Jaws save lives every year, turning what could be tragedy into rescue.

Have questions about how they work? Drop them in the comments!

🚒 Volunteer fire departments are built by people from all walks of life. Our members are parents, mechanics, teachers, students, business owners, and more, all training to professional standards to serve our community.
Many departments, including ours, are multigenerational family affairs, with parents, kids, siblings, and lifelong friends serving side by side. Volunteer firefighters respond to much more than fires too, including medical calls, vehicle accidents, and rescues.
The bonds built in the fire service run deep, and we are proud to serve the Loleta community together. ❤️🔥

🚒Meet Your Firefighters: Maren Ellis🚒

Maren was added to our roster in the fall of 2024, with the thirst to help people in her community, and that is what she has done. She completed the Eel River Valley Fire Academy in the spring of ‘25 followed by the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class at The College of the Redwoods that fall. She has most recently completed training for, and has become, a CPR instructor.

Maren grew up in Loleta, and her family has a long standing tradition of being a part of Loleta Fire. Her father was in the Department many moons ago, and has served as a Fire Commissioner since then.

In Maren’s spare time she likes to practice the fine art of photography. Most of the pictures that have been posted on this and other social media platforms have been taken by her. It is rumored that she likes to bake, but the Department has yet to be graced with the results of that hobby.

🚒 Engine 7535 – Our Wildland Warrior 🌲🔥

Engine 7535 is a Type 3 engine, purpose-built for wildland firefighting. When the call takes us off-road and into rugged terrain, this is the rig we trust to get the job done.

Here’s what makes it stand out:

💧 500 gallons of water on board

🚜 4x4 capability to handle steep, narrow, and uneven terrain

🌲 Narrow body design for maneuvering through forest roads and tight access points

🧯 Equipped with both structural and wildland hose, giving it versatility in different fire conditions

👩‍🚒 Can carry a 5 person crew: perfect for quick, mobile attack in wildland settings

🔧 Outfitted with chainsaws, hand tools, and gear specific to wildland operations

🕒 Built for “pump-and-roll,” meaning it can spray water while moving...critical in chasing and containing fast-moving grass or brush fires

Type 3 engines like 7535 are the go-to rigs for wildland firefighting: tough, nimble, and ready to take the fight off the pavement.

Training nights aren’t just about learning skills; they’re about building a stronger team. 💪🚒
Every week, our volunteers show up ready to put in the work, sharpen their knowledge, and practice the techniques that keep our community safe. From hands-on drills to problem-solving scenarios, we’re constantly preparing for whatever call comes next.
But it’s not all serious, we have a lot of fun along the way too. Training together builds trust, teamwork, and the kind of camaraderie you can only get by putting in the time side by side.
We train every week so we’re always ready when it matters most. 🔥

🚒🔥Meet your firefighters: Lisa Nielsen🔥 🚒
Lisa has been a dedicated member of Loleta Fire for 15 years. When she’s not on a call, you can usually find her crocheting, reading, or staying busy with work. Her favorite tool? The trusty halligan 🔧
Lisa grew up around the department, following in her dad’s footsteps—he served as chief for many years—so firefighting has always been a part of her life. She says it’s about as close as you can get to being a superhero without falling into a vat of toxic waste 🦸‍♀️
Thank you, Lisa, for your years of hard work, dedication, and commitment to the community! 👏

Loleta Volunteer Fire Dept is proud of three of our new (and returning) firefighters for completing this year’s Fire Academy! 👏🔥
This is a big accomplishment and a testament to their hard work and dedication. We’d also like to thank all the departments that continue to make this academy possible year after year—we couldn’t do it without your support.
