⚡️If You Hear It, Clear It⚡️

Lightning is spectacular to watch from a distance, but it’s no joke when you’re caught in its path. Did you know that lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from the actual rain?

If you’re heading outdoors this weekend, keep these life-saving tips in mind:

🏠 Seek Real Shelter

The Golden Rule: When thunder roars, go indoors!

Safe Spots: Substantial buildings with wiring and plumbing, or a fully enclosed, metal-topped vehicle.

Unsafe Spots: Gazebos, picnic sheds, tents, or under isolated trees. These offer zero protection.

30-Minute Rule

Wait at least 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder before heading back outside. Most lightning deaths occur after the rain has stopped or before it starts!

A High Wind Watch has been issued for the Bay Area and Central Coast from 7 PM Tuesday evening through 4 AM Wednesday morning due to southerly winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts to 60 miles per hour. Damaging winds could down trees, snap power lines, and result in property damage, with widespread power outages possible. Travel could be extremely difficult and hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles. The combination of wind and moist soils increases the risk for downed trees.
