Last night The Outreach House was delighted to read the book “Saturday at the Food Pantry” to three different groups of children at Westmore Elementary Family Reading night. We’re so grateful the school is also hosting a food drive for The Outreach House as part of their One Book One School program.

Thank you to The SBB Research Group Foundation for the opportunity to speak today as part of the Grant Recipient Presentation Series, along with Support Over Stigma and Hunger Resource Network, and for the generous grant of $2,500 to each of the three participants! We are so grateful for your years of support for The Outreach House!

Thanks to Tone Products for donating 1500 tampons and 1500 pads for distribution to our guests. In the US, 2 in 5 women struggle to purchase period products due to lack of income so donations like this make a real difference to our guests.

The generosity of local businesses, churches and our wonderful young people never ceases to amaze. Thanks to Leslie Heating, Cooling, & Electric for hosting a drive for our most needed items, to Catholic Church for their diaper and clothes drive and to Isabel from Glen Ellyn for collecting children’s clothes and toys for our youngest guests!

To keep our guests and volunteers safe, The Outreach House will not open this evening for our usual 5-7pm distribution. We will be open as usual for the rest of the week and will be open this Saturday from 9-11.45am. Please help us share as widely as possible. Thank you!

On Thursdays from 12-1.45pm we open to serve our guests who are 65 and older and veterans. One such guest is beautiful Bessie, a spritely 101 years old! Bessie told us:, “The foods that I get here are not only helpful but also the ones I enjoy and they’re good for my health”. We so enjoy Bessie’s visits and her wonderful smile.

Did you know we have our list of most needed items on our website? Thanks to Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana leader Meagan for using our list to support this group working on their Budgeting Badges! They were split into smaller groups at Mariano's and had to go through the store pricing the items on the list, and then compared the total cost of each team's list and comparing the items that were different prices. They had fun at the store, while learning a real lesson about budgeting!

We can only do what we do at The Outreach House withe the support of our community. Thanks to Kiwanis Club of Villa Park - Illinois (merged with Lombard Kiwanis) for their $1,000 donation (match for Giving Tuesday!), to The Centre for Chiropractic Health, LTD. For their annual year-end donation ($2,000 this year!) and to Culver's Lombard for their donation of over $600 from the sale of holiday calendars! We’re so grateful for all the ways we are supported!

Just 3 years ago our Clothes Closet distributed 204 winter coats. Last year it was 1,400. This year we have already distributed over 1,200 winter coats and EVERY ONE of them was donated. Thank you to everyone for this support including ardentwealth, porterpipe, consumerportfolioservices and kathyshatsforhopeillinois for their coat and clothes drive and beautiful handmade hats, all donated in January.

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to again share about the The Outreach House at Altar'd State in Oakbrook Center. Altar'd State is donating 10% of Monday sales from November through January to The Outreach House - pretty amazing!
