One of my favorite native prairie flowers is the Pale Purple Coneflower (Echinacea pallida). 🌸

This beautiful native perennial blooms in early summer and provides an important nectar source for bees, butterflies, skippers, and other pollinators. Its long, drooping pale pink-purple petals make it easy to distinguish from the more commonly planted Purple Coneflower.

Pale Purple Coneflower is drought-tolerant thanks to its deep root system, making it an excellent choice for native gardens and prairie restorations. As the flowers fade, the seed heads become a valuable food source for goldfinches and other birds.

Plant it if it’s native to your region and watch your garden come alive with pollinators!

Local friends, still looking for native plants?
Tomorrow, Deep Roots Native Nursery will be holding a native plant sale at Prairie Food Co-op. It’s a great opportunity to add some beautiful native plants to your yard and help support pollinators and other wildlife.
After picking up your plants, be sure to stop inside the co-op for some healthy eats and local products. While you’re there, take a moment to check out the beautiful rain garden in front of the store—it’s a wonderful example of how native plants can benefit both people and the environment.

A tiny caterpillar crawls so slow,
Through leaves and flowers as it goes.
Then wrapped in a chrysalis, tucked out of sight,
It transforms with nature’s quiet might.

One day it emerges, graceful and free,
A butterfly dancing from flower to tree.

We are exactly 1 month away from our Annual Garden Party! 🌿🦋

I can’t believe it’s already almost here. Every year, this is one of my favorite days because I get to spend time with so many wonderful gardening and nature-loving friends.

We’ll have several amazing “green” organizations joining us to share information about native plants, pollinators, conservation, and ways we can all help make this planet a healthier home for wildlife and future generations. There will also be free raffles, food, and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Whether you’ve attended before or this will be your first visit, I’d love to see you. Come walk through the gardens, meet some great people, learn something new, and spend an afternoon celebrating nature together.

I hope to see many of my wonderful gardening friends there as we continue working to make a difference for monarchs, pollinators, wildlife, and the planet.

One of the most exciting things about the Obama Presidential Center is its commitment to nature. The landscape will include more than 10,000 native plants, creating valuable habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife.

Native plants are far more than just beautiful. They provide food and shelter for countless species, support biodiversity, improve soil health, reduce the need for watering and chemicals, and help reconnect people with the natural ecosystems of their region.

This project shows that large public spaces can be both inspiring and environmentally responsible. Every native plant added to the landscape is a step toward a healthier future for wildlife and people alike.
