While en route to go train, B-Shift responded to an electric vehicle fire. The call was quickly upgraded to a full structure fire response due to the close proximity to multiple homes. Units arrived on scene and attacked the vehicle fire while protecting the surrounding homes and trees. Another day on the South side.

DOUBLE DUTY: Yesterday afternoon Engine 351 (staffed with E51’s crew) was dispatched to the Plato Fire on Vandenberg Space Force Base. About 45 minutes later all remaining city units responded to a working residential structure fire for a fully involved garage and trailer. With all our normal mutual aid resources assigned to the Plato Fire, a full structure fire response was delayed. E52 and R51 were able to knock down the fire while waiting for the extended response units to arrive. During this time there were no LFD units available for other 911 calls. Busy day for our two stations, imagine what we could do with a third.

Today wasn’t about calls, it was about prevention. We participated with our community for Every 15 Minutes program to show the real impact of impaired driving.

We see it when everything’s already gone wrong. Today was about stopping it before it starts.
