Films, Food, & Fun at Town Center Park to return this month!

Community members will soon have the opportunity to watch free, family-friendly films under the stars.

London Tourism & Parks’ annual Films, Food, & Fun event series returns this month, kicking off with the 2025 computer-animated Christian drama “King of Kings” on Friday, September 11. “King of Kings,” directed by Seong-ho Jang, centers around a young boy who imagines walking alongside Jesus and learning about faith and sacrifice after his father tells him the life story of Jesus Christ as a bedtime tale.

Up next will be “Freakier Friday” on Friday, Sept. 18. Serving as a sequel to the 2003 film “Freaky Friday,” this movie picks up years later as Anna (portrayed by Lindsay Lohan) now has a daughter named Harper, and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily. Tess (portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis) and Anna find themselves in a similar situation once again when family-merging tensions cause four people to switch bodies simultaneously.

The October showings will kick off on Oct. 2 with “Toy Story 5.” “Toy Story 5” is a 2026 comedy-drama film that serves as the fifth installment in the Toy Story film series and the sequel to Toy Story 4 (2019). In the new film, Jessie steps up as the new leader of Bonnie's toys, while Woody returns from his travels with Bo Peep to act as an emergency consultant.

In the spirit of the spooky season, “Addams Family” will close out this year’s Series. In the 2019 animated film, the Addams family face-off against a crafty reality-TV host while also preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration.

Food trucks will be on site at 7 p.m. at each showing, and the respective films will take the screen at dusk (around 8 p.m.). Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

“We’re excited to bring Films, Food & Fun back to Town Center this fall,” said Kailyn Stewart, Marketing & Events Assistant with London Tourism & Parks. “We’re always looking for ways to create fun, free experiences for our community. Our events welcome people of all ages, and we hope families, friends, and youth groups plan to join us for these four movie nights in the park!"

Congratulations to South Laurel High School on their brand-new auxiliary gymnasium! Originally funded through federal ESSER funds to provide flexible indoor space, this state-of-the-art facility stands as a dynamic, long-term investment in South Laurel students.

The custom-designed interior was built specifically for the campus, featuring full basketball and volleyball courts, indoor turf for field sports, retractable batting cages, dedicated locker rooms, and flexible space for band and fine arts rehearsals. Beyond athletics and extracurriculars, the versatile building is designed to flex into additional instructional space or serve as an emergency shelter when needed. We are so excited to celebrate this milestone with Laurel County Public Schools and can’t wait to see all the incredible opportunities this space brings to South Laurel students for decades to come!

Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of a true icon, humanitarian, and champion for children, Dolly Parton.

While her extraordinary talent brought joy to millions, it was her giant heart and profound generosity that transformed generations. Through her creation of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she turned a deeply personal vision, inspired by her own father’s inability to read, into a global movement. Because of her, millions of children, including thousands right here in London and Laurel County, have grown up with a love of books delivered straight to their front doors, completely free of charge. 📚❤️

Serving as a local partner for the Imagination Library has been one of our greatest privileges. Dolly taught us that when you put a book into the hands of a child, you give them the key to unlimited dreams.

Dolly once said, "If you can read, you can cook, you can paint, you can measure, you can build... you can dream."

The absolute best way we can honor her memory is by ensuring her mission lives on right here in our community. If Dolly’s generosity touched your family or inspired your children, please consider making a donation in her memory to support our local Imagination Library partnership. Every single dollar goes directly toward keeping books flowing to Laurel County children. 📬👶

Thank you, Dolly, for your light, your music, and your unwavering belief in the power of a child's imagination. You will always be loved. 🕊️✨
