💨 As damage surveys continue, we are seeing evidence of a large swath of straight-line winds associated with the August 11th storm.

Radar data from the National Weather Service showed circulation over the northern portion of Choctaw Lake. As that circulation dissipated, a large swath of severe straight-line winds moved southeast, continuing through areas north of London. The damage path includes intermittent corn damage across multiple fields and severe straight-line wind damage to trees in several areas.

Thank you to everyone who has sent us photos, videos, and information regarding damage in areas outside of Choctaw Lake. Your reports have been extremely helpful as we continue to assess the full impact of the storm. We truly appreciate your help!

COLD AIR FUNNELS THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING...

Showers and thunderstorms will be capable of producing brief cold air funnels this afternoon and evening. Several funnel clouds have already been spotted across west central Ohio, with this feature potentially moving into central Ohio over the coming hours. Keep in mind, the majority of these funnels will not reach the ground, but if they do, gusty winds and minor damage may occur.

Survey Summary:
The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio has confirmed an
EF1 tornado on the northwest side of Choctaw Lake in Madison County,
Ohio from the storms on August 11, 2026.

The first evidence of tornadic damage occurred near the
intersection of Karok Dr and Seneca Dr as hardwood trees were
uprooted and several trees had large branches broken off. Numerous
trees were either uprooted or snapped on several properties along W
Choctaw Drive. The majority of the damage along this stretch was
from downed trees, although minor fascia damage to residential homes
were observed.

The most significant damage occurred on the northeastern side of
the Lake, where five softwood trees were completely snapped near a
docking port. This damage was consistent with peak wind speeds
around 90 MPH, which would classify this tornado as EF-1 strength.
The final evidence of tornadic damage was an uprooted tree that
fell onto a car at a residential property off Itawamba Trail.

Additional tree damage was observed across the Choctaw Lake
community south of the tornado track, but this was all believed to
be associated with straight-line winds.

The National Weather Service would like to thank the Madison
County Emergency Management Agency for their assistance in this
damage assessment.
