Laurel County residents — you may have money waiting for you.

The Kentucky State Treasury’s Unclaimed Property team will be at the Community Room at the Annex building on Friday, May 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to help residents search for unclaimed property.

Unclaimed property can include forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, utility deposits, and other funds that belong to Kentuckians.

Staff will be on-site to help you search the state’s database and answer questions. The process is free, quick, and secure.

The Laurel County community held a Day of Remembrance Saturday at Wyan-Pine Elementary to honor and remember the lives lost in last year's tornado. It was an emotional day, but it also showed that we continue to be Laurel County Strong.

A Day of Remembrance today starting at 11 a.m. at Wyan-Pine Elementary School will honor and remember those we lost in last year’s tornado. The school is close to the Sunshine Hills Subdivision where 10 people lost their lives. The public is invited to attend.

Thousands of waste tires have already been collected at the county garage on Substation Street. Most of the tires will be recycled. The tire collection will continue from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
