On 05/11/2026, firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on N US Highway 25, just up from the state police post. Automatic mutual aid from Crossroads Fire Department was already enroute and fire command requested mutual aid from London City Fire Department as well due to the location being at edge of city limits. First arriving apparatus confirmed a working structure fire with no access for large fire trucks from the roadway. Due to this firefighters had to shut down the roadway and utilized ladders to make access up the bank with hose lines and tools. Firefighters also utilized our tower ladder from the roadway to make access to the fire. Additional engines were requested from Laurel County Fire Department for water supply and to provide firefighter coverage for the city of London. London - Laurel Rescue Squad and Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County also assisted on scene. The group photo is just being attached to show the amount of teamwork that goes into some of these incidents, that photo represents several different agencies that worked together to serve their communities. We are always thankful for good partnerships in our area when the need arises!

***6:21pm UPDATE***

Fire is up to 3 acres now and mostly contained. Forestry service is still on scene. Still heavy smoke in the area.

At 8:38 am, firefighters were notified of a smoke outdoors call in the area of Bentley Road. Firefighters arrived in the area and located a fast moving woods fire, off of Watkins Road off of Bentley Road. Due to the very rough terrain and weather conditions, the Kentucky Division of Forestry was requested. The fire was determined to be a campfire that had gotten out of control back in the woods. Firefighters worked to contain the fire until their arrival. Command also requested a drone from London Laurel County Rescue Squad to get a total view of the fire. Watkins Road fire is estimated at 2 acres before it was contained. The forestry service remains on scene with the fire and at last check it was contained to at least 70%. EBFD and forestry firefighters had to deal with some pretty tough terrain (cliffs and thick wooded areas) but were able to contain the fire before it made it to any residences. We are grateful for great interagency teamwork! Reminder, we have significantly dry conditions right now, please do not burn anything, even campfires right now!
