The City of London Fire Department began its story in August of 1922 at a City of London City Council Meeting. The need arose after numerous fires in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries destroyed many properties in London. The first department had 11 members and a 1924 Ford Seagrave delivered in 1925. Through almost of all of the Fire Department’s history, the Fire Stations have prim

arily resided on Broad Street until the current “Station One” on Dixie Street at the old location of the First Presbyterian Church. The new station was completed in 2004 and is a state of the art facility. The London City Fire Department now has four Engines (E-2, E-3, E-4, E-5) and one Aerial (A-1) 2005 E-One 114’ Bronto Skylift.

London Fire Department was proud to be part of today’s Ice Cream for Liam Foundation fundraiser!

We enjoyed seeing everyone who came out to support such a great cause and help families battling childhood cancer. It was wonderful seeing our community and fellow departments come together for Liam and his family.

COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE FIRE

London Fire Department responded to a reported commercial structure fire with reports of an active fire in the kitchen area.

Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed an active fire in the kitchen. Thanks to the quick response and actions of responding firefighters, the fire was quickly extinguished and brought under control.

No injuries were reported.

London Fire Department would like to thank East Bernstadt Fire & Rescue, Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County, and Laurel County Ky. Emergency Management for their assistance and response to the incident.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT — I-75 🚨

London Fire Department has shut down southbound traffic at Exit 38 due to an ongoing incident on I-75.

The Laurel County Fire Department is currently on scene of a commercial vehicle fire following a wreck on I-75 Northbound near the 33-mile marker.

⚠️ I-75 Northbound remains blocked, and traffic is expected to be impacted for some time while emergency crews work the scene.

Motorists should avoid the area, seek an alternate route, and use caution around emergency vehicles and personnel.

Please expect significant delays and give emergency crews plenty of room to work safely.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is
imminent.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 813 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of
rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over
the area. This additional rain will allow minor flooding to
persist or worsen.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Barbourville, Gray, Bertha Station, Rossland, Lynn Camp,
Arkle, Garrich, Knoxfork, Tuttle, McHargue, Bentley Station,

Understanding the New Emergency Medical Response Agreement Between Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County and the London Fire Department

There have been several questions about the new cooperative agreement between Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County (AILC) and the London Fire Department (LFD). I want to take a moment to explain what this agreement means in plain language so everyone understands how emergency medical calls will be handled.

What is the purpose of this agreement?

The primary goal is simple: to provide the best possible emergency medical care to the citizens and visitors of the City of London. By working together, Ambulance Inc. and the London Fire Department can provide a faster, more coordinated response to serious medical emergencies.

This agreement is designed to:
• Improve emergency response times.
• Ensure patients receive lifesaving care as quickly as possible.
• Allow firefighters and paramedics to work together seamlessly.
• Ensure all medical care provided by the London Fire Department operates under the appropriate medical direction established by Ambulance Inc.’s Medical Director.

Who responds to medical calls?

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County remains the primary EMS provider for the City of London. They will continue to be responsible for transporting patients and providing advanced medical care. That has always been the case and the Fire Department has never transported patients.

The London Fire Department is not replacing Ambulance Inc. Instead, firefighters will respond alongside Ambulance Inc. on certain emergencies as needed.

What calls will both agencies respond to?

Under this agreement, both Ambulance Inc. and the London Fire Department will be dispatched to many of the most critical medical emergencies, including:

• Difficulty breathing
• Choking
• Cardiac arrest
• Heart attacks
• Strokes
• Unresponsive patients
• Full cardiac arrests occurring outside medical facilities
• Seizures
• Drug overdoses
• Falls from over 10 feet with serious injuries
• Severe uncontrolled bleeding
• Serious head injuries
• Electrical shock injuries
• Gunshot wounds
• Accidental shootings
• Stab wounds
• Any incident where Ambulance Inc. requests additional assistance.

What about nursing homes and doctor’s offices?

Medical calls at nursing homes, doctor’s offices, and similar healthcare facilities, all of which are staffed with trained doctors and other health professionals, and which usually are only requesting transport to the hospital, will generally be handled by Ambulance Inc. only.

However, if the facility or Ambulance Inc. determines additional help is needed, the London Fire Department can be requested to respond.

What about Air Raid Trampoline Park?

Because of the potential for traumatic injuries, both Ambulance Inc. and the London Fire Department will automatically be dispatched to medical emergencies at Air Raid Trampoline Park.

Will firefighters respond to every medical call?

No.

Not every medical call requires multiple emergency units. Minor illnesses, minor cuts, and similar non-life-threatening incidents generally do not require a fire department response.

For situations that fall into a gray area, an Ambulance Inc. supervisor and/or the 911 Center will determine whether assistance from the London Fire Department is appropriate.

This agreement allows both agencies to use their strengths:

● Ambulance Inc. continues providing emergency medical transport and advanced life support.

● London firefighters provide rapid Basic Life Support, immediate patient stabilization, and additional manpower during critical emergencies.

The result is a stronger emergency response system focused on one thing: saving lives and providing the highest level of care possible for our community.

This agreement is not about one agency replacing another. It is about two professional emergency service organizations working together, utilizing each other’s strengths, and ensuring the citizens of London receive the quickest and best emergency medical care possible when seconds matter the most.

🔥 VEHICLE FIRE 🔥

At approximately 09:33 AM, the City of London Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at Hardee’s.

London Fire personnel arrived on scene in less than 3 minutes of being notified and found a passenger vehicle with the engine compartment heavily involved with fire. Crews quickly deployed an 1¾-inch attack line and began an aggressive fire attack, bringing the fire under control and preventing extension to remainder of vehicle as well as nearby vehicles and surrounding property.

The London Police Department also responded and assisted with traffic control and scene safety throughout the incident.

Due to quick response and teamwork on scene, personal belongings in the vehicle were salvaged with no occupants injured.

🔥EARLY MORNING FIRE 🔥

At approximately 02:33 AM, the City of London Fire Department was dispatched for a large fire in the vicinity of Burkmann Feed within the city limits of London.

Upon arrival, London firefighters found a large carport full of straw heavily involved with fire and was threatening multiple exposures directly behind the business. Crews quickly deployed multiple attack lines and hand tools to begin bringing the fire under control.

Due to the need for additional manpower and water, Lily Fire & Rescue responded via mutual aid. Eco-Tech USA also assisted by providing a mini excavator to remove burning product from beneath a large carport, allowing crews to fully extinguish the fire.

Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County also responded and stood by due to extensive overall that was being completed.

We would like to thank Lily Fire Department, Ambulance Inc., Eco-Tech USA, and everyone who assisted on scene. Your teamwork and support are greatly appreciated.
