The City of London Fire Department began its story in August of 1922 at a City of London City Council Meeting. The need arose after numerous fires in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries destroyed many properties in London. The first department had 11 members and a 1924 Ford Seagrave delivered in 1925. Through almost of all of the Fire Department’s history, the Fire Stations have prim

arily resided on Broad Street until the current “Station One” on Dixie Street at the old location of the First Presbyterian Church. The new station was completed in 2004 and is a state of the art facility. The London City Fire Department now has four Engines (E-2, E-3, E-4, E-5) and one Aerial (A-1) 2005 E-One 114’ Bronto Skylift.

The London Fire Department is proud to recognize the outstanding efforts of our B-Shift personnel: Battalion Chief Drew Allen, Lt. Jordan Helton, FF/Paramedic Bradley Smith, FF/AEMT Parker Ebertshauser, FF/EMT Dallas Bussell, and part-time FF/AEMT Wes Walker.

During a recent emergency response, what initially appeared to be a routine call quickly escalated into a cardiac arrest. Our crew rapidly assessed the patient, initiated lifesaving interventions, and worked seamlessly alongside the dedicated providers of Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County to deliver critical care.

Thanks to the combined efforts of all responders, the patient survived and was later discharged from the hospital. Outcomes like these are uncommon following cardiac arrest and serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of rapid response, high-quality patient care, and strong teamwork.

While we respect the privacy of the patient and family, we are grateful for the opportunity to have played a role in this positive outcome.

Every time the tones drop, our personnel answer the call not knowing what challenges await. On this day, their training, teamwork, and dedication helped give someone the opportunity to return home to their family. That is what this profession is all about.

Congratulations to all personnel involved. Your professionalism, compassion, and commitment to serving our community reflect the very best of the fire and EMS profession.
