I remember the first time I came across this translation and I did a double take thinking “is he just taking some liberty there”
but when I looked it up, I have found this to be the best translation of this particular verse out there anywhere.

“and many people’s love will grow cold because of increased distance from Torah.”
Mattityahu (Mat) 24:12

As you can see the regular king James obscures all this with
one word -iniquity
which most people can’t seem to make the connection to the Torah
The underlining word is Anomion

G458 (Strong (lexiconnum:Strong.G458))
ἀνομία
anomia
an-om-ee'-ah
From G459 (num:G459); illegality, that is, violation of law or (generally) wickedness: - iniquity, X transgress (-ion of) the law, unrighteousness.

Regular KJV
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

The new King James gets a little closer, but people will still sometimes teach that this is lawlessness against society
Not the great apostasy which is the final and great falling away against the Torah

NKJ V
And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.

Then when we go back to this verse and we see it uses the same term which tells you they were doing all the work, but they were actually against the Torah most likely because they had been taught that.

Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’”
Mattityahu (Mat) 7:23

Be careful that you don’t be led away in the error and doctrine of the angel
