You are invited to join Manzanar’s staff and other volunteers in the continued uncovering of the Block 6 mess hall Japanese garden during our annual Labor Day Weekend Community Archeology Project. The project work will take place September 3 to 8 (Thur-Tues). The main task this time will be excavating and screening sediments from a second pond at the garden.

We will be able to accommodate up to 30 volunteers a day.
Volunteers must be at least 15 years old and be able to work outdoors. To reserve your spot email: [email protected].

Volunteers must sign up in advance and may work any number of days or hours, but a full day or multiple days are preferred.

Work will be conducted regardless of weather, so please come prepared, and bring lunch, snacks, water, sunscreen, hat, and work gloves.

We will meet each day at Block 6 at 7:30 am for introductions and a brief safety talk, and work until 3:30 pm.

If you care about our communities and want to help make a difference, we'd love to have you. Our Chamber works to support businesses, promote tourism, and help bring events and opportunities to all of South Inyo South - from Big Pine, Independence, and Lone Pine to Olancha, Death Valley, Tecopa and Shoshone.

You don't need to have previous board experience - just a willingness to get involved, share ideas, and help support the place we all call home.
