Planning a summer home project? Don’t forget the permit check. 🛠️

As the weather warms up, many Lone Tree homeowners are getting started on projects around the house — from finishing a basement or replacing a roof to installing a new water heater, furnace, deck, or patio cover.

Before work begins, take a moment to check whether your project needs a building permit. Permits help ensure improvements are completed safely, meet local building codes, and protect your home, family, investment, and neighborhood.

Not every project requires a permit. Smaller updates like painting, same-size window replacements, certain plumbing fixture replacements, and fences under 7 feet may not need one — but it’s always a good idea to confirm before getting started.

Honoring Leadership: Teen Court's First-Ever Volunteer of the Year and Our Outstanding Seniors

The Lone Tree Teen Court Student Leadership Board (SLB) wrapped up their 2025-2026 session last week, and it was an incredible way to close out the year. The meeting was devoted to the students’ “Flat-Alex” leadership competition presentations, and every single SLB student delivered an outstanding presentation showcasing their leadership, service, and impact.

At the conclusion of the presentations, students voted on the first-ever SLB Volunteer of the Year award. Congratulations to Charlotte Ratcliff (Legend High School), who was selected by her peers as the 2025–2026 SLB Volunteer of the Year! Charlotte received the Gold Volunteer of the Year plaque and an SLB leadership award gift bag in recognition of her exceptional dedication and leadership.

Navid Makooi (Rock Canyon High School) earned second place, and Tatum Theobald (Chaparral High School) received honorable mention for an outstanding presentation and continued leadership.

All of our graduating SLB seniors did an amazing job, and they will truly be missed. Thank you to all of our Student Leadership Board members for your hard work, leadership, and commitment to making a difference in our community!

Proactive Patrol Results in Felony Drug Arrest 🚔

While conducting increased patrols in the 8700 block of Yosemite St., Officer Egebrecht observed a white truck parked in a non-designated parking area in front of a local business. The vehicle was unattended, with the door ajar.

As the officer approached the truck, suspected drug paraphernalia and drug residue were observed in plain view on the front seat. Additional officers and a K-9 unit responded to assist with the investigation. During the investigation, an individual from an upstairs window claimed ownership of the vehicle and stated he had recently purchased it and was waiting on paperwork.

The K-9 positively alerted on the vehicle, and a subsequent search led to the recovery of 78 grams of crystal m**hamphetamine, 1.3 grams of powder m**h and multiple financial devices and identification cards that did not belong to the owner.

The male suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Douglas County Jail.

He is facing the following charges:

• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Violation of a Protection Order
• Felony Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine
• Felony Possession with Intent to Distribute
• Criminal Possession of Identification Documents
• Criminal Possession of Financial Devices

Note: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

🌊 🥾 Ask a Rueter-Hess Ranger series! 🐾🎣

Be sure to bring your binoculars to your next visit to Rueter-Hess—you’re going to want them.

Ranger Bernadette Ortiz recommends the best bird watching spots at the Reservoir:

📍 Scenic Overlook – Wide-open, calm, and perfect for spotting birds across the water

📍 Coyote Loop (early morning) – Best for birding by ear and spotting white pelicans in the early morning.

Take advantage of one of the best ways to slow down and take in the reservoir – whether you're a novice or a seasoned bird-spotter! 🦅

Paws-itively Good News for Mikey! 🐾

Mikey, Lone Tree's Victim Services therapy dog, recently received his annual eye exam — and we’re happy to share that his eyes are still “good as gold!” 💙

A huge thank you to Eye Specialists for Animals and Dr. Martha Julien, MVB, for generously donating Mikey’s exam through the ACVO/Epicur National Service Animal Eye Exam event.

This incredible program provides free wellness eye exams for qualified service and working animals, including therapy dogs, police and military dogs, guide dogs, search and rescue dogs, and more. These screenings help detect potential eye issues early and ensure these hardworking animals stay healthy and ready to serve.

We’re incredibly grateful to the veterinarians, staff, and clinics who donate their time, expertise, and care to support service animals like Mikey. Thank you for helping keep our four-legged community helpers healthy and happy! 🐶
