Disabled Resources Center, Inc. Incorporated in 1976, the Disabled Resources Center was founded by Jerry Stein, Lee Tardy, and Warren Moss.

The mission of the agency is, “To empower people with disabilities to live independently in the community To Make decisions about their lives and to Advocate on their own behalf. Guided by the vision and dedication of the founders, the services offered by DRC evolved from giving information and referrals, to providing eighteen services to thousands of people each year in the cities of Artesia, Ava

lon, Cypress, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, La Palma, Long Beach, Seal Beach, and Signal Hill: plus 52 ZIP Codes in the City of Long Beach, Los Angeles County and Orange County, California. Most of the staff members are people with disabilities, as are the members of the Board of Directors, who provide positive role models for other people with disabilities. The mission of the agency is, “To empower people with disabilities to live independently in the community, to make their own decisions about their lives and to advocate on their own behalf”.

🏡 Looking to make your home safer and more accessible?

The HUD Older Adults Home Modification Program may be able to help eligible Los Angeles County residents age 62+ with low-cost, high-impact home modifications that support independence and help prevent falls and injuries.

Modifications may include:
✔️ Grab bars
✔️ Handrails
✔️ Lever-style door handles
✔️ Handheld shower heads
✔️ And more

Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so apply early. An assessment by an Occupational Therapist or Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist is required.

June is Immigrant Heritage Month.

At the Disabled Resources Center, we recognize and celebrate the many contributions immigrants have made and continue to make to our communities. Immigrant Heritage Month is an opportunity to honor the diverse cultures, traditions, experiences, and stories that enrich our nation and strengthen our communities.

We believe that every person deserves the opportunity to live, work, and participate fully in their community with dignity and respect. This month, we celebrate the resilience, achievements, and leadership of immigrants, including immigrants with disabilities, whose voices and experiences help build a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

Together, we honor stories, celebrate cultures, and build inclusive communities.

🚗 Emergencies can happen anytime — at home or on the road. Having a car emergency kit ready can help you stay safer, more comfortable, and connected during unexpected situations.

Your Emergency Car Kit should include:

✔ Seatbelt cutter & window breaker
✔ Medications & Medical Supplies
✔ Emergency Contacts & Important Documents (e.g. Laminated, hard copies of medical history, prescriptions, assistive equipment details (make/model), and emergency contact numbers.)
✔ Water & Easy-to-Eat Snacks
✔ Flashlight solar powered/crank handle or light stick
✔ Phone Charger or Power Bank (do not leave in the heat.)
✔ First Aid Kit
✔ Blanket or Comfort Items, Rain poncho, Reflective vest
✔ If a laptop computer is used for communication, pack a non-verbal communication boards.
✔ Mobility or Accessibility Essentials (e.g. Keep a tire patch kit, sealant, extra inner tubes, and a mini pump.)
