PSA: Abandoned Bikes in Student Housing Villages (Hillside, Parkside, and Beachside)
On June 24, UPD will tag bikes that appear to be abandoned in Hillside, Parkside, and Beachside. To avoid having your bike tagged, please ensure it is properly stored between June 23–25. Per Student Housing, bikes may be temporarily stored inside your room during this period; however, once the tagging process is completed on June 26, all bikes must be returned to the outdoor bike racks. Although e-bikes and e-scooters are never permitted inside the Student Housing villages, they will also be tagged as abandoned if they are not stored at a location away from these areas.
Any bikes that are tagged as abandoned will be collected and removed on July 8 and taken to Lost and Found. To reclaim a bike from Lost and Found, you must provide proof of ownership, such the bike’s serial number or other identifying documentation.
Bike Safety Tips:
- Register your bike with University Police (UPD) to deter theft and ensure your bike is returned if lost or stolen (link in the bio to register).
- If you decide not to register your bike with UPD, make sure you take a photo of your bike and have your bike’s serial number for your records in case it gets lost.
- If you are here long term and park your bike at the bike rack or cages, check your bike on a weekly basis and move your bike to different locations.
