While at the Older Americans Month Resource Fair in Long Beach this month, we heard something over and over: “I want to stay safe and healthy at home, but I don’t know where to start.”

That’s what this year’s theme, “Champion Your Health,” really means. It’s not about doing everything on your own. It’s about knowing where to go for help and having the right team around you.

We were proud to sponsor this event through the Long Beach Aging Services Collaborative and stand alongside partners—and local leaders like Long Beach Mayor who are working to better support older adults in our community.

At Independence at Home, we help make that next step clearer. We connect older adults, caregivers, and providers to the right support—through programs like the Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP) and trainings like Trading Ages™, which help make care easier to understand and follow. Championing your health should not feel confusing. It should feel supported.

Glad to be part of your success, Meals on Wheels of Long Beach!
Happy Older Americans Month.

Thank you to Independence at Home, Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine, Long Beach Aging Services Collaborative, and The Heart of Ida for making the Older Americans Month Resource Fair possible!

We truly appreciated the opportunity to be invited as a resource for the community and to connect older adults with valuable information and support services tailored to their needs, including housing assistance, renter and utility resources, and more.

We also appreciated everyone who stopped by to learn more and connect with local organizations. It was wonderful to see the community come together in support of older adults. We especially appreciate the measures that Mayor Rex Richardson has implemented to help ensure our community is being cared for and supported.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make this event such a meaningful gathering!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and staying connected supports mental well‑being—especially as we age. When routines change or getting out becomes harder, small tech tips can help people stay in touch, feel supported, and reduce isolation.

A few simple ways to make connection easier:
📱 Put one trusted person a tap away.
Save a close family member or friend as a favorite or emergency contact so reaching out for help—or just checking in—is quick and stress‑free.

🔤 Adjust your phone so it’s easier to see and hear.
Increase text size, turn up the volume, use speakerphone, or turn on captions to reduce eye strain and missed information.

📸 Make messages feel more personal.
Add a photo, emoji, or short voice message to texts—small touches can make digital conversations feel warmer and more human. 😁🥰😎

🔒 Slow down and protect yourself.
Don’t click unexpected links, never share passwords or gift card numbers, and double‑check urgent requests by contacting someone you trust.

At Independence at Home, our Insights mental health team and Technology Education & Coaching (TEC) team work together to support emotional well‑being and build confidence with everyday technology.
