🚧 Slurry season has arrived, Council District 7! 📣

Beginning the first week of August, Public Works Street Maintenance crews 👷🏽 will begin operations through October to help preserve and extend the life of neighborhood streets. 🛣️

🚗✨ Safe Rides Protect the Vibes!

Have you noticed the new speed feedback signs popping up around Long Beach? 👀 These signs are being installed at Speed Safety System locations to remind drivers of their speed and encourage safer driving before the pilot program begins.

The Speed Safety System is a pilot program that will use automated speed safety devices to encourage drivers to slow down and help prevent serious and fatal crashes. 🪧 Installing these signs ahead of activation gives drivers advance notice and an opportunity to adjust their speed.

🚦 Our goal is simple: encourage safer driving, reduce serious crashes, and help make Long Beach streets safer for everyone.

The project will improve Pacific Avenue from Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) to Wardlow Road. Together with the Pacific Avenue (South) Transformation Project between Ocean Boulevard and PCH, these improvements will create a safer, 🫱🏿‍🫲🏽 more connected 🚗🚴🏼🚶🏻 corridor along nearly the entire length of Pacific Avenue. 🛣️

🌈 The City of Long Beach is advancing the vision for the future LGBTQ+ Cultural District.

The City is preparing to implement the first phase of the LGBTQ+ Cultural District Strategic Improvement Plan along the Broadway corridor, between Alamitos and Temple Avenues, creating a destination that celebrates the history, culture and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.

Phase 1 improvements include:
✨ Color-changing festoon lighting
🏳️‍🌈 A Pride Plaza at Broadway and Junipero
🎨 Public art and murals
🏳️ Pole wraps and banners

Future enhancements will be based on recommendations from the strategic improvement plan:

A new chapter begins at Belmont Shore!

On Saturday, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the highly-anticipated Belmont Plaza Pool! This exciting new facility will provide state-of-the-art aquatic and recreational amenities for residents and visitors of all ages.

The project will feature:
🏊 A 50-by-22.86-meter competition pool with springboard diving and a movable divider for multiple activities
🌊 A recreational pool with guided lanes
💧 A water playground with interactive spray features
🚿 Modern locker rooms, showers, family changing rooms, and public amenities

This investment in our waterfront and community will create a welcoming space for recreation, fitness, aquatic programming, and family fun for generations to come.
