Established by Josephine Gumbiner in 1989, the foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of women and children in the Long Beach area of Southern California. This includes supporting organizations providing daycare, job training, temporary and transitional housing, afterschool tutoring and mentoring, and health care, with a special emphasis on intervention, prevention and direct service. Proj
ects funded by the foundation in the past have ranged from childcare scholarships to women’s shelters to intervention programs for at-risk youth and participatory cultural programs for children and teens. Types of funding include program-specific and general operating support. Application for grants are welcome from all 501(c)(3) organizations involved in programs that meet the foundation’s goal of protecting and enriching the lives of women and children in Long Beach, California. The foundation does not make grants to individuals, political campaigns, lobbying efforts, programs that supplant traditional schooling, pass through organizations, organizations with endowments greater than five million dollars, or organizations with Long Beach client bases of less than 75 percent. Any organization that discriminates on the basis of race, creed, sexual orientation, religious affiliation or national origin will not be considered for funding.

The African American Cultural Center Long Beach Nonprofit Organization (AACC) created an exhibit for Women's History month to honor Josephine and the work of the foundation. They will be hosting an opening reception this Friday, April 4th from 4:00 - 6:00.
The Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association will also be hosting First Fridays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

The state of California recently launched two application windows of the COVID-19 Relief Grant Program to assist small businesses and nonprofits affected by COVID-19. With $1.5 billion in funding available through this grant program, there's high likelihood that thousands of small businesses and nonprofits will receive funding! The last day to apply is September 30 at 5pm PT.
There are only a few days left to apply for the CA COVID-19 !

3 Grant Opportunities - last day to apply is June 24, 2021
Fennie Community Fund: created in 1988 through an estate gift from Jack L. Fennie. Grants are awarded for broad and general charitable purposes, with a preference for children’s organizations in the communities of Avalon and Long Beach.
Healthy Kids Coalition Fund: Created in 2005 and award to organizations and/or service providers who are able to address basic healthcare needs for underserved children residing in Long Beach.
LBCF Community Impact Fund: 2021 focus is Homeless Youth and grants will be awarded to qualified applicants who administer programs that best address post-pandemic educational and health needs of homeless youth or youth at risk of becoming homeless in Long Beach.
The Supplemental Nutrition program for Women, Infants and Children is increasing its Fruit and Vegetable benefits to $35 per month for each participant 12 months and older on June 1.
