In response to numerous complaints, and at the direction of the City Council, the Long Beach Police Department has reached out to the private ambulatory companies that service the city's retirement homes and rehabilitation facilities reminding them the use of lights and sirens should be reserved for emergency purposes only. As a result, we have seen a significant drop in the number of noise complaints related to these vehicles. The quality of life of our residents is important to us and we encourage you to utilize our non-emergency number (516/431-1800) to alert us to any such issues.

Thank you to the Community Police Relations Foundation for their generous contribution to the Unity Table Food Pantry at the Long Beach MLK Center. The pantry takes place every Saturday at the Center from 9:15am to 12:00pm, helping to ensure that nobody in our community goes without.

From the NYS Dept of Transportation:

Starting August 17, 2026, H & L Contracting, will be working at night between 10PM and 5AM, Monday-Friday, on the Meadowbrook Parkway bridges over False and Fundy channels and Loop Parkway over Reynolds Channel. The work will include saw cutting and demolition of the median barriers on the bridges. This work will require two lanes to be closed in each direction on Meadowbrook Parkway from just north of the False Channel to south of Fundy Channel. One lane of traffic will be maintained throughout the work zone. On Loop Parkway Single Lane closures are to be expected.

As with most highway projects, work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and drive carefully through the work zone for their safety and the safety of the highway work crew.

NYSDOT and H & L are mindful of the impacts this construction activity may have to the surrounding community, and every effort will be made to keep inconveniences to a minimum. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of motorists and the local community while this project is undertaken.

Congratulations, Sgt. Christopher Monahan on 30 years of dedicated, exemplary service to the LBPD and our community.

Sgt. Monahan was surrounded by friends, family, and co-workers as he made his way out of the department for a Final Walkout and Salute.
Sgt. Monahan has been an outstanding member of the LBPD and we are deeply grateful for his contributions, his service and his dedication to Long Beach.

On behalf of the Department, the City Council and the City of Long Beach thank you and congratulations, Sgt. Monahan, on a well-deserved retirement and an accomplished career with the LBPD.

The Long Beach Police Department has made an arrest following an early morning incident at a West End residential building in the City of Long Beach.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. today, officers responded to a report of an unknown individual inside a residential building. Upon arrival, officers located an individual in a common area of the building who appeared to be intoxicated.

During the subsequent investigation, officers determined that the individual was allegedly inside a resident’s apartment without the resident’s knowledge or permission. Officers began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Members of the Long Beach Police Department continued the investigation. An arrest was made at approximately 12:00 p.m. at Long Beach Police Department Headquarters. Thirty year-old Dimitri Badette of Valley Stream, NY was charged with two counts of Criminal Trespassing.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be considered.

The Long Beach Police Department would like to remind residents to immediately contact police if they observe suspicious activity.

This coming Tuesday, August 4th is our annual National Night Out community block party from 4-7pm in Kennedy Plaza. Hamburgers, hot dogs and fun will be on hand as we come together as a community to build trust and lasting relationships between our Department and residents. This is our favorite night of the year, and we can't wait to see you there.
