I had the opportunity to tour the Family Health & Wellness Center in Central Long Beach, a federally qualified health center operated by The Children's Clinic. The center provides primary care and related services to all patients regardless of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay, with sliding-fee options based on income. I've committed $1 million a few years ago to ensure the completion of the project to be accessible to our most vulnerable community members.

Thank you to the TCC team for your work in the community.

Due to the current Santa Ana wind conditions, there may be a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event this week. For more information on potentially impacted communities and possible timelines for de-energization and re-energization, head to Southern California Edisonโ€™s PSPS portal. While youโ€™re there, please remember to sign up for alerts.

What is a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS)?
A PSPS is when an electric utility temporarily shuts off power to reduce the risk of its equipment causing a fire. Fire weather conditions โ€” including strong winds, dry vegetation and low humidity โ€” drive the decision to call for a PSPS.

Everyone in our community deserves to feel safe and know their rights.

As your 33rd District State Senator and Chair of the Latino Legislative Caucus, Iโ€™m working to protect our neighbors and families:

SB 423 brings transparency to private immigration detention centers.

SB 937 limits the use of flash-bang grenades and explosive breaching tactics in our neighborhoods.

With the Latino Caucus, weโ€™ve passed over 25 bills in two years to strengthen protections and accountability, and weโ€™ve invested millions in legal resources for those who need them.

Know your rights: you can remain silent, decline to sign documents, and ask for a lawyer. A judicial warrant is required to enter your home or business without your permission.

Help is available. Please stay safe, stay informed, and contact my office with any concerns.

๐Ÿ“ข South Gate residents: The California Department of Toxic Control Substances (DTSC) is seeking your input on a proposed cleanup to remove lead-contaminated soil at 9019 Long Beach Boulevard. The plan includes dust monitoring and control measures to protect the community.

After cleanup, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles proposes approximately 14 low-income housing units.

๐Ÿ’œ Wear Purple Day

Today we wear purple to stand with survivors of domestic violence and show that no one has to face abuse alone.

Team Gonzalez joined Expand LA for their Lights On Afterschool press conference and kickoff event!

Following the press conference, our team participated in a breakout session with students, where we had the opportunity to hear directly from young people about the issues that matter to them, how this type of programming impacts their lives, and why they deserve greater attention.

Thank you to the SELA Youth Hub Network and Expand LA for bringing together students, community partners, and local leaders to highlight the importance of investing in youth mental health and safe spaces!
