Our dedicated team of volunteers, along with a full-time manager and half a dozen staff who share roughly one full-time position, find homes for about 500 pets annually.We're committed to providing the best possible care for as many pets as we can. We support community/feral cat spay and neuter on the Long Beach Peninsula and extend humane education to local and visiting kids. Coaching is availabl

Tiny Hadley Can’t Wait for Her Happy Home!

I’m a two-year old tuxedo named Hadley, and my story is one of hardship and new hope. At a delicate 8 pounds, I arrived at the shelter pregnant, but lost my unborn kittens. 😢 Two months in the care of our SPCHS volunteers though, and I've turned my difficult start into strength and resilience. Now, all I need is a soft place to land, with my own family to pour all my love into! 🐈💕

I have a gorgeous black-and-white coat with a striking white stripe down my nose, and some of the most spectacularly long white whiskers you can imagine. I'm more than just looks though - I'm an absolute sponge for affection, demanding all the attention and pets I can get. You wouldn't believe the purrs I can work out of my little body! 😸

Big is Beautiful: Bernie Wants A Family for Her Shelter-versary!

My name is Bernie Marie, and even though I’m smiling, I feel a bit funny about the idea of it being my shelter-versary. On one hand, it’s fun to get to celebrate! 🎉 But as much as I love all my friends here at the shelter, isn’t a year waiting for a family a little much for a big, beautiful girl like me? 🤔

I weigh in at 107 pounds of love and snuggles, and despite being a Mastiff mix, surprisingly little of that is drool! I'm that friend who starts out quiet when someone new comes by, but once I know I'm in good company, will crack jokes and goof off — anything to get a laugh. Once past my initial shyness, I love people and making new friends!

When I'm not earning laughs, I'm a gentle, loyal sweetheart that wants to spend all the time I can with my future family. I would, however, prefer to be the only pet of my new family, as I don't care for other dogs and cats. I'll also need a family that has time to keep up with my obedience training; when you're a big, loving girl like me, manners are so important in ensuring you don't scare off new friends!
