During Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor and celebrate the Hispanic and Latino DDCers that help build NYC.

Nicole Carrillo and Abraham Gonzalez work on critical projects for all New Yorkers. Nicole is a Design Engineer who knows how meaningful it is to work in a field that is underrepresented by Latina women and hopes to set an example for others. For Abraham, who is a Senior Project Manager, this month is an opportunity to reflect and celebrate his roots as well as those that came before him.

DDC is building a permanent home for The Noel Pointer Foundation in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, transforming a historic firehouse at 299 DeGraw Street into a modern facility that will honor the legacy of Noel Pointer.

Commissioner Ochoa spoke with Chinita Pointer, CEO and President of the foundation, and gave a behind-the-scenes look inside the space. This facility will allow the foundation to expand its music education programs for young people from historically underserved communities.

The new facility will feature specialized acoustic design and soundproofed lesson rooms, offices, a music library and gallery, workstations, storage rooms, a recording studio, and much more.

Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2028.

DDC is partnering with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs on a $17.8 million renovation to transform the former Engine Company 204 firehouse in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn into a permanent home and music school for The Noel Pointer Foundation (NPF).

“When DDC is done renovating this place, the Noel Pointer Foundation will be inspiring musical talents in this firehouse, and instead of the sound of sirens, it will be the sound of music,” said Commissioner Ochoa.

We're celebrating a new chapter for the City Island Library and City Island community with today's check presentation of $600,000 in capital funding.

While the island is surrounded by water, we want to keep the water out of the library. With these funds, DDC will upgrade the library’s roof, building envelope and HVAC system. This will give the City Island community a comfortable space to read and partake in the great programming NYPL offers, regardless of whether it’s a summer heatwave or a cold, breezy island day.

This fall, DDC will begin a $10.6 million project that will upgrade the roof across three levels of the David H. Koch Theater, home to the New York City Ballet. This project will be done in phases, so patrons won’t miss a single performance.

It’s hard to build a community without building enough community space, and DDC is proud to deliver the Brownsville Multi-Service Center for the residents of Brownsville.

The Center will be home to community-based organizations, offering programming and services to thousands of neighbors. It features a kitchen, community garden, meeting spaces, and other areas that will allow residents of all ages to participate in classes, workshops, cultural activities, and more.

The Center also features a series of installations commissioned through the DCLA Percent for Art program by Brooklyn-based artist Jazmine Hayes, who was born and raised in East New York. Titled “I Am Protected,” the project includes four works placed throughout the building and community garden.

DDC is working with our partners at NYC Water to install green infrastructure across the city to combat the effects of climate change and reduce flooding in our communities.

We joined our project team in Borough Park, Brooklyn this week, where we’re installing porous pavement. Porous pavement allows stormwater to be naturally absorbed into the ground, rather than pooling on the street or flowing into the sewer system.

This is just one of many ways we are building a more resilient NYC.
