Long Valley First Aid Squad

Long Valley First Aid Squad Volunteers providing EMS and Rescue services since 1957. The Long Valley First Aid Squad was formed and incorporated on April 19, 1957.

Twelve individuals had met and trained for one year prior to this date. Up until this time the Chester Volunteer Fire Company First Aid Squad had provided service. The original membership of the Squad was made up of firemen from the Long Valley Fire Department and other concerned citizens. The initial training of the original members consisted of Standard and Advanced Red Cross Courses which were

given at Muhlenberg Hospital and Hunterdon Medical Center. Today, the squad has grown and continues to grow and serve with the help of the community. http://lvfas.org/index.html

On Monday night, Long Valley First Aid Squad Rescue Services drilled high angle rescue at the overlook in Schooleys Mountain County Park. Rescue Services got reps building anchors, haul systems, light-weight ginpole rigging and tending the litter over the edge. Drone operators also got reps providing overwatch of the operation and remote lighting to the rescuer. It was a beautiful night for some training!

Long Valley First Aid Squad is currently accepting applications for EMS and Rescue Services members. In-house EMT class starting in August! Email [email protected] for more information on how you can serve your community.

On Sunday June 14, Long Valley First Aid Squad EMS and Rescue Services were alerted by Morris County Communications Center for the structural collapse with multiple patients entrapped.

LVFAS EMS and Rescue Personnel responded with Command, EMS 1, EMS 2, EMS 3, Rescue 1, Rescue 2, Support 2 and Support 1. Additional EMS from Saint Clare's Health MICU 57 and Atlantic Mobile Health EMS 3 also responded.

Upon arrival, LVFAS Chief was met by Schooley's Mountain Fire Co.3 Officers who had sized up a large deck that had fallen off the house and was hung up on a tree with further danger of collapse. Schooley’s Mountain Fire Co. 3 members assisted with mitigating various hazard & helped LVFAS EMS personnel with moving patients. LVFAS rescue personnel provided emergency shoring with Paratech Fire & Rescue Equipment struts off LVFAS Rescue 1 while firefighters and members pinned the deck with pickets. Schooley’s Mountain Fire Co. 3 also secured a gas leak at the scene. EMS personnel tended to seven (7) patients. Six (6) patients were transported to Morristown Medical Center within 30 minutes of arrival on scene with non-life threating injuries.

After all patients were transported from the scene Long Valley First Aid Squad Rescue Services structural collapse technicians formulated a shoring plan and constructed 3 "T-Shores" to safeguard any further collapse until a contractor could remove the damaged deck. All lumber and equipment was utilized off LVFAS Rescue 1. Units operated for approximately 2 hours.

Great job by all involved!

*Edit and comment.* Alot has changed in building construction over the years. This was an older deck built under older codes. Long Valley First Aid Squad is here to safeguard the community, provide the best EMS and technical rescue capabilities we can offer - no matter the situation. Situations like this happen in every community, without warning. We are thankful that those affected by this incident will recover quickly and there was no loss of life.

It’s been a busy 48 hours for the Long Valley First Aid Squad!

Our dedicated volunteers have answered a wide variety of calls for service, provided mutual aid assistance to our partners in Chester, and continued serving the community despite challenging high heat indices.

In addition to emergency responses, our crews staffed multiple event standbys to help ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.

Amid the busy schedule, we also had the privilege of celebrating one of our own. Squad members proudly attended the graduation of EMT Emerson J. from West Morris Central High School, recognizing an important milestone and the commitment that Emerson has shown both in the classroom and in service to the community.

We’re proud of every member who continues to answer the call, support our neighboring agencies, and represent the Long Valley First Aid Squad with professionalism and dedication.

Congratulations, Emerson, and thank you to all of our volunteers for another outstanding 48 hours of service! 🚑🎓👏

This afternoon, Long Valley First Aid Squad Rescue Services members conducted some heavy lifting operations to assist the Washington Township Land Trust with the removal of a large tree that was caught up in the intake of the historical Obadiah LaTourette Mill located in the center of Long Valley.

The tree had been swept down stream in spring storms and came to rest against the foundation of the Mill and was causing additional debris to become lodged. Rescue Services Members utilized a griphoist and rigging equipment off of Rescue 1 to pull the tree and debris away where they could be cut into manageable sections.

The Obadiah LaTourette Mill was built in 1750 and operated as a grist and saw Mill for over 200 years. Operations ceased in the early 1940s. The Mill now is entrusted to the Washington Township Land Trust.

Interested in how you can give back to your community? Long Valley First Aid Squad is currently seeking EMS and Rescue Services volunteers. An in-house EMT class is scheduled to start in August. Email [email protected] for more information on how you can volunteer.

The Washington Township Land Trust is also seeking volunteers to assist with grounds maintenance and general upkeep of properties. Email [email protected] for more information on this great group of folks that keeps Long Valleys heritage alive.
