Recently a Washington Township Police Officer observed a vehicle traveling on Route 46 displaying an expired out-of-state registration from 2023. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop and, upon approaching the driver’s side of the vehicle, observed two handguns located on the front seat. During the investigation, officers also located hollow point ammunition inside the vehicle. The operator was subsequently taken into custody and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon & Possession of Hollow Point Ammunition.

The male was transported to Washington Township Police Headquarters, where he was processed and later released pending a future court appearance in Morris County Superior Court.

As we head into Labor Day weekend, the Washington Township Police Department will join several neighboring law enforcement agencies in a coordinated effort to promote safer roadways.

Throughout the holiday weekend, officers will be conducting high-visibility traffic enforcement with a focus on aggressive driving, speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving.

If your plans include alcohol or other impairing substances, please plan ahead and arrange for a sober ride. Slow down, buckle up, put the phone away, and give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination.

Enjoy the final holiday weekend of summer, and most importantly, get home safely.
