Recently, several of our officers joined employees from our local Target store for a “Coffee with a Cop” community event.

Shoppers stopped by to enjoy coffee, snacks, and conversation with officers and Target team members. Events like these are a great opportunity to connect with the community, answer questions, and build positive relationships outside of normal police interactions.

Thank you to Target and everyone who stopped by to say hello and spend some time with us!

Over the Memorial Day weekend, officers from the Washington Township Police Department conducted proactive traffic enforcement throughout the township. During two separate motor vehicle stops, officers determined that the drivers were operating under the influence of alcohol.

An officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Fairmount Road for a traffic violation. While speaking with the driver, the officer observed signs of impairment and ultimately determined the operator was under the influence of alcohol. A 50-year-old female from Califon, NJ was taken into custody, processed, and later released to a responsible adult in accordance with John’s Law.

In a separate incident, an officer conducted a traffic stop on East Mill Road after observing a motor vehicle violation. Following an on-scene investigation, the officer determined the driver, a 29-year-old Long Valley, NJ resident, was operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The driver was taken into custody, processed, and subsequently released to a responsible adult in accordance with John’s Law.

The Washington Township Police Department reminds motorists to always make responsible decisions before getting behind the wheel. If you plan on consuming alcohol, utilize a designated driver, rideshare service, or other safe transportation option.
