Without a doubt, the most effective way to learn about impending bad weather is the National Weather Service (NWS). The NWS, located in Boulder, provides weather, water, and climate data, forecasts, and warnings to protect life.

This NWS center is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing up-to-the-minute weather tracking in the area. The Longmont Office of Emergency Management highly recommends residents familiarize themselves with these resources and sign up for the notifications they provide. They are clearly the most effective way to receive weather information.

HOW TO GET WEATHER ALERTS: The Longmont Office of Emergency Management encourages residents to use the following National Weather Service (NWS) based notification systems for Boulder County:

Website: https://www.weather.gov/bou/

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NWSBoulder/

Twitter: https://twitter.com/NWSBoulder

Weather radio: Information transmitted from a weather radio does not require internet service. This information is distributed directly from the National Weather Service Boulder County. Weather radios are available at no cost from the Longmont Office of Emergency Management, M-Th, 8 am - 5 pm, Safety and Justice Building, 225 Kimbark. Please bring an ID that identifies your address within the Longmont city limits.

Overnight between May 24th at 9:00 PM and May 25th at 1:00 AM, the Longmont Police received multiple reports of property damage as a result of a BB/pellet gun and a baseball bat. One victim was hit by a BB/pellet gun, a building window was damaged, and 24 vehicles sustained damage to their windows and mirrors.

Preliminary information indicates the suspects were three to five juveniles in a silver or gray Nissan Titan. This damage is not specific to any area of Longmont but is within the city limits.

We are releasing photos of the vehicle involved. We urge residents to check their video recordings for any footage of the vehicle and its occupants. Contact Detective Cassidy Jones at [email protected] and reference LPS report #26-6381 with any information that would identify those responsible.

On Saturday, rescuers saved a wild bird that had tangled itself in nesting material and found itself upside down 35 feet off the ground in a neighborhood tree.

Longmont Fire used the ladder truck for the unusual rescue as local kids and neighbors cheered as the bird was removed.

Longmont Animal Control delivered the male Flicker to the Greenwood Wildlife Rehab Center where staff suspect that he has a broken leg. He will remain at the center until he is healed.
