left turns at CO 119 and Hover Street in Longmont will close for construction starting in early September

To safely build the new southwest-bound bridge on Colorado Highway 119 at Hover Street in Longmont, all left turns at the intersection will be closed in early September and remain closed until the project is complete next year.

The right turn from southbound Hover Street to CO 119 will also be closed. All the closures will provide the construction team with a safe space to build the new vehicle bridge.

The basic concept of building a bridge over Hover Street for Boulder-bound traffic will make traffic more efficient by eliminating the need for a single sequence of traffic lights, increasing green light time for everyone. Additionally, grade-separating will improve safety and reduce traffic and pedestrian conflicts.

People in Boulder County Warned to Take Caution with Dangerous Fentanyl Circulating in Illicit Drug Supply

Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) is warning community members that a particularly dangerous form of fentanyl is circulating in the county’s illicit drug market.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid up to 50 times more potent than he**in and 100 times more potent than morphine and is a leading cause of accidental drug overdose deaths in Boulder County and nationwide.

BCPH urges the community to take the following steps to prevent overdoses:
• Assume any pill or powder obtained outside a pharmacy may contain fentanyl.
• Carry naloxone, learn how to properly use it and make sure others do too.
• Call 911 immediately if an overdose is suspected. Colorado’s Good Samaritan Law protects callers who remain on scene.
• Avoid using drugs alone. Have someone available who can get help if needed.
• Test drugs using fentanyl test strips but remember that the absence of a positive result does not guarantee safety.
• Start with a small amount when using a new substance.

“Deadly fentanyl is present in Boulder County’s illicit drug supply, and people should take extra steps to protect themselves and their loved ones,” said Dr. Georgia Babatsikos, BCPH harm reduction program manager. “Fentanyl can be manufactured in many different colors and consistencies and may be mixed with other dangerous drugs. Anyone who uses illicit drugs, or who knows someone who does, should always carry the overdose reversal medication naloxone.”

Naloxone (also known as Narcan) can reverse opioid overdoses, including those involving fentanyl, though multiple doses may be required. Naloxone is covered by most insurance plans and is available free of charge at many local pharmacies without a prescription.

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, fentanyl poisoning caused 35 deaths in Boulder County and 980 statewide in 2025, up from 24 in Boulder County and 760 statewide in 2024.

In Longmont, we continue to see the impact of substance use and overdoses on individuals, families, and friends. During May, June, and July 2026, our community experienced 27 reported overdoses. Sadly, six of those were fatal.

These numbers represent more than statistics. They represent people—our neighbors, friends, coworkers, and family members.

Substance use can affect anyone, and asking for help should never be a source of shame. Whether someone is struggling with substance use, concerned about a loved one, or simply wants to learn more, resources and support are available.

Knowing the signs of an overdose, understanding the risks associated with different substances, and having Narcan available can help save a life.

On August 29, the Longmont Plane Draggers will be at DIA for the Special Olympics Plane Pull, where our team will join forces to pull a United Airlines jet 12 feet across the tarmac. Yes—an actual airplane. ✈️😳

We’re bringing the teamwork, muscle, and competitive spirit to help raise money for Special Olympics Colorado and support incredible athletes in our community.

The lobby at the Safety and Justice Building, 225 Kimbark, will be closed from August 24 – September 8 to complete another stage of construction. There will be no public access to the building during this two-week period.

Good morning. We are receiving reports from residents that the bear previously spotted in southwest Longmont yesterday (8/18/26) has moved into northeast Longmont, specifically in the areas of East Mountain View and Pace. We are working with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to monitor the situation.

While bear sightings are not uncommon in Longmont, we ask residents to avoid the area and give the bear plenty of space to move through safely. Please bring pets inside, secure potential food sources, and do not approach or attempt to follow the bear.

Please do not call 911 to report a bear sighting. If there is no immediate threat to people or property, please contact Longmont Public Safety’s non-emergency line at 303-651-8501 for assistance.

Longmont Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating Cesar Ramirez-Gomez. Ramirez-Gomez failed to appear for sentencing in 2023.

Cesar Ramirez-Gomez was scheduled for sentencing on 2/3/2023 in Boulder County Court for Domestic Violence-2nd Deg. Assault (Drugging Victim) and DV-1st Deg. Criminal Trespass to a Dwelling (Docket # D0072021CR000959) as well as Theft ($5k-$20k) and 1st Deg. Crim. Trespass to a Vehicle (Docket ). Both warrants are no bond with nationwide extradition.

Additionally, Cesar was scheduled for sentencing on 2/16/2023 in Weld County Court for DV-2nd Deg. Strangulation, DV-3rd Deg. Assault, DV-Criminal Mischief (

Longmont Public Safety’s Citizen Academy answers these questions and many more. This unique behind-the-scenes experience gives participants an inside look at the people, equipment, and decision-making that keeps our community safe.

Through engaging classroom presentations, open discussions, and interactive learning opportunities, you'll gain firsthand insight into police, fire, and emergency services operations. The academy also includes a hands-on Public Safety Day at the Fire Training Center—an experience you won’t soon forget.
