⚠️🚨Crime ALERT: Public Assistance Requested Regarding Overnight Burglary/Theft Investigation🚨⚠️

The Longport Police Department is investigating an overnight burglary that occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 30, 2026, in the area of North Evergreen Avenue and Wi******er Avenue.

Two individuals wearing dark clothing and face coverings were observed moving through the neighborhood and attempting to access property. During the incident, a bicycle was stolen from a residential garage. The suspects were last seen traveling northbound on Evergreen Avenue toward Sunset Avenue.

We are sharing this information for two important reasons: to keep our residents informed and to seek the public’s assistance with this investigation.

This incident also serves as a reminder that simple preventative measures can significantly reduce opportunities for crime. In this case, a locked vehicle was targeted but remained secure, while an unsecured garage provided an opportunity for property to be taken.

Residents with exterior surveillance cameras in the area are encouraged to review footage recorded between 2:30 AM and 4:00 AM. If you witnessed suspicious activity or have surveillance footage that may assist this investigation, please contact the Longport Police Department at 609-822-2141 and ask for Sgt. Slattery #334 or Officer Liam Nolan #339.

Thank you for partnering with us and helping keep our community safe.

🚲 🚨 LONGPORT COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT: NEW NJ E-BIKE LAWS 🚨🚲

As we gear up for a busy summer on the coast, the Longport Police Department wants to ensure all residents and visitors are aware of major statewide changes to electric bicycle regulations.

Beginning July 19, 2026, full enforcement will take effect across New Jersey for updated e-bike mandates. To keep our coastal roadways and walkways safe, original state-enforced requirements are now standard for e-bike operation.

Here is what you need to know before you ride:

📋 What is Required
Valid Licensure: Operators must hold a valid driver's license (ages 17+) or a specialized motorized bicycle license/permit through the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission (ages 15–16).

MVC Registration: All e-bikes must be officially registered with the NJ MVC. (Note: Registration fees are waived by the state for the first year).

Liability Insurance: Riders are required to carry and maintain valid liability insurance coverage specifically for their e-bike.

🛑 Strict Prohibitions

Age Limit: Anyone under the age of 15 is strictly prohibited from operating an e-bike on public roadways.

Speed Modifications: Aftermarket modification kits designed to increase e-bike speeds beyond factory limits are completely illegal.

⚠️ Important Reminder: These updated regulations apply to ALL e-bike classes under the new state framework. Please ensure your equipment is fully compliant before the July deadline.

Let’s look out for one another on the road. Stay educated, ride legally, and help us keep Longport’s streets safe for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike!

Residents can find information on the new E-Bike laws and subscribe for official updates directly from MVC:

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Yesterday, Officers Nolan #339 and Long #338 had the opportunity to meet with members of our senior community during a community luncheon hosted by the Library in the Commission Chambers. The presentation mainly focused on scam awareness and cybersecurity education. Some important summer safety reminders were also highlighted with busy months coming ahead.

Community members were encouraged to:
• Never provide personal or banking information to unknown callers or unsolicited messages
• Verify suspicious requests directly with trusted family members, financial institutions, or official agencies
• Report scams and suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately

Residents were also reminded to watch for common scam red flags:

🚩 Urgency
🚩 Threats or intimidation
🚩 Suspicious links or attachments
🚩 Unusual payment requests
🚩 Requests for personal information

Community awareness and education remain some of the most effective tools in preventing crime and keeping our residents safe.

🚨If you believe you may have been targeted by a scam or have questions regarding suspicious activity, please contact the Longport Police Department.🚨

The Longport Police Department would like to thank Borough Hall, the Longport Library, and most importantly all attendees for their participation and engagement during yesterday’s presentation.
