They say, “What goes around, comes around.” On November 12, 2021, we recorded our first CitiServe Leadership Podcast. I had the pleasure of interviewing my good friend, Chris Davis, the former pastor of Abundant Life Nazarene Church in Kelso. Since then, he’s moved on to pastor a church in Othello, Washington.

As we were getting ready for our 100th podcast before my departure from CitiServe, I asked Chris to come back and interview me. It was a great way for me to wrap up my journey with CitiServe. It was quite an experience for both of us - Chris asking some really thoughtful questions, and me sharing my thoughts and experiences.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the conversation and know that serving leaders in Cowlitz County through the ministry of CitiServe has been an honor and a complete joy for me!

After 3 1/2 years of working together to build the nonprofit CitiServe, there was one interview that simply had to be made. Jeff Hoover sat down with Rufina Berishev for a chat about the power of teamwork in creating something truly special.

Building an organization from scratch is no easy feat. Rufina has become skilled at building websites, strategizing video podcasts, and learning new skills along the way. She’s become an integral part of CitiServe of Cowlitz County. Rufina has clearly shown that we can achieve more than we think when we work together.

A special thanks to Christin Cole for her help behind the camera while Rufina was in front of it for this episode.

In this episode of the CitiServe Leadership Podcast, Jeff Hoover sits down with Jerry Stinger, a local realtor who has a deep love for his community and Cowlitz County. Jerry opens up about his journey growing up in Longview, the personal obstacles he faced as a child, and how they have shaped him into the man he is today.

At just 5 years old, Jerry was diagnosed with Perthes disease, a condition that affected his hip bone and left him using a crutch for two years. As the disease spread to both hips, Jerry spent even more time in a wheelchair, learning to overcome significant physical and emotional challenges. Through it all, Jerry discovered the power of resilience, faith, and determination.

Currently, Jerry is a realtor for RE/MAX. He is extremely passionate about encouraging people to embrace their gifts and become the person God created them to be. He shares his heart for people, his love for Jesus, and his mission to help others grow and thrive in every aspect of their lives; especially the next generation of young people.

Welcome to Part 2 of "Leading a church through transition". In this episode, Jeff Hoover sits down with Dave Hendrickson, the current pastor of Longview Community Church, to hear about his incredible journey into ministry and his big move from Pennsylvania to Longview. Dave shares his personal story of how he and his family embraced the mission of Longview Community Church, a church with a rich history of over 100 years of serving the community.

Throughout their conversation, Dave dives into the significance of Longview Community Church in the local area and its impact on the community. One of the most exciting moments discussed is the church's recent acquisition of Longview Foursquare Church in August 2024. Located at the corner of 20th Avenue and Beech St., Longview Foursquare Church has a deep connection to Longview Community Church, originally built in 1929 as a branch to serve families in the highlands with Sunday School and prayer gatherings. The hope was always to provide a welcoming space for people to connect with the church and with God. The building is now being used for so many different activities, and it's original purpose and idea is being restored.

Take the time and listen to this episode, to hear more about Dave’s journey, the rich history of Longview Community Church, and how its legacy continues to shape the Longview community today!

Have you heard about Beth’s Place? - Part 2 with Christin Cole | Ep 95 | March 7, 2025

In this episode, Jeff Hoover sits down with Christin Cole, who oversees the culinary side of Beth's Place. Beth’s Place is a branch of the Community House and serves as a shelter primarily focused on youth in our area. Christin explains how she uses cooking as a powerful tool to connect with the young residents, providing them with a safe space where they can be honest, vulnerable, and open up. Many of the residents have a tough exterior as a protective barrier, but Christin has a gift for bringing out the best in people through cooking, making them feel seen, heard, and loved, which in turn allows them to let down their walls. Through shared meals and hands-on cooking experiences, she builds trust and fosters meaningful relationships that go far beyond the kitchen. This interview gives Christin a platform to share the importance of creating an environment where these young individuals can express themselves freely and feel supported. Watch this episode to learn how Christin’s approach is making a real difference at Beth’s Place and in the lives of the youth it serves.

LaVonne and Wesley Rodgers are two individuals in our community that have a passion for ministry and for helping people. Jeff Hoover had a chance to sit down with them and learn about their journey from Klamath Falls and Alaska, all the way to Longview. LaVonne had a connection to Longview where her grandfather, Bishop Eddie Crenshaw, is currently the pastor of House of Prayer for All Nations. The two of them attend HOPFAN and are very involved in ministry.

LaVonne and Wesley are also Financial Advisors in our area. Wesley transitioned out of the trucking industry, into this new endeavor because he had a passion for helping others, and he wanted to be more present with his family, due to the limitations with his former career. LaVonne worked in the banking industry, and has extensive knowledge in mathematics and financing, so when her kids started reaching an age where they would all be in school, she jumped on the opportunity to also pursue a financial career. Together, the pair views the Financial Advising as a ministry in which they can help other people, walk alongside them as they navigate their finances, and develop plans that help people from feeling like they are drowning in debt or financial burdens.

For more information about financial advising, feel free to contact LaVonne or Wesley Rodgers:

What is YoungLife? Here is the perfect opportunity to learn more about it and get connected. Jeff Hoover sits down with Steve Bilger, who has a longstanding history of being committed to the local YoungLife Organization in our area. Today, he holds a role as Committee Chair and Volunteer MMHS YL Leader. Steve spoke about his journey with YoungLife, and how it has grown and flourished in our area. As simple as it sounds, it really just boils down to showing up, and loving kids in “ways and words they could understand.”

Steve has a huge heart for the next generation of kids and leaders that are being brought up around us. With the help of individuals like Amber Moats (Area Director), Ryan Moats, Ryan Prothero, Clara Prothero, and SO MANY others, they’ve dedicated so much of who they are to love kids where they’re at, and be a support and encouragement to them. Today, there are a variety of YL clubs in our local schools, because one group of people decides to take a chance and make it happen.

In January of 2022, Jeff Hoover sat down with James Dieter, and talked about the journey that James embarked upon, to plant Renewal City Church. Now that it’s been three years, Jeff chose to take a different approach and ask James how he has been impacted as a leader. Renewal City Church is coming up on 12 years, and in that time, there has been many learning opportunities, growth, and change for James, and now was a great time to reflect on those years.

As a 30 year old, James decided to take an idea and bring it to life, with Renewal. Prior to starting, he met with many different individuals to gain insight and wisdom about the whole thing. Looking back now, there were two main things that really stuck with James. The first was, to value the people that disagree with you and still choose to stick by your side, and the second was, that you will be really surprised by who leaves you in the process. For James, the last 12 years really have been full of learning opportunities, growth, and change, but they also have shaped him into the leader that he is.

Jeff Hoover had the opportunity to sit down with not just one person, but three people. The real kicker is that all three are Physicians, and all three are related! Rich Kirkpatrick is the father of Scotty and Christie, and they all have the privilege of working alongside one another at Kirkpatrick Family Care. Scotty is a Cardiologist, and Christie is an Internal Medicine Physician like her father, Rich. Both Scotty and Christie just moved back to Longview to continue on their career paths, at the family owned practice.

Rich LOVES people, and that is one of the most prominent traits that he passed down to Scotty and Christie. His ability to sit with and listen to patients, in order to get a better understanding of how to help them, has set a good example for how Scotty and Christie want to practice medicine. Scotty and Christie are two great doctors that inherited their father’s LOVE for people, and because of that, they strive to do all that they can to educate others and help them to choose a healthier lifestyle that promotes longevity and the ability to live life to the fullest. They’ve partnered with local gyms and even started a podcast to teach people about different approaches to better nutrition, health, and wellness.
