Gregg County Skywarn

Gregg County Skywarn SKYWARN is a concept developed in the late 1960s that was intended to promote a cooperative effort between the National Weather Service and communities.

The emphasis of the effort is often focused on the storm spotter, an individual who takes a position near their community and reports wind gusts, hail size, rainfall, and cloud formations that could signal a developing tornado. Another part of SKYWARN is the receipt and effective distribution of National Weather Service information.

Good Morning Shreveport partners,

Confidence continues to increase in a winter weather event that will move through the area Sunday morning through Monday morning. There remains some uncertainty in the forecast, particularly with the snowfall location and amounts, so please continue to watch for further updates.

Timing and Overview:

A mix of rain and snow will initially move into portions of East Texas (generally west of a line from Mount Vernon, to Longview, to Lufkin) early Sunday morning. This precipitation will transition to all rain by late Sunday morning as temperatures are expected to warm during the daytime hours. This rain will then continue to spread eastward across much of the area through the day Sunday.

The rain will once again make a transition to a mix of rain and snow Sunday evening, with this wintry mix moving eastward through the night before moving out of the area by late Monday morning.

Four State Impacts:

Expected Accumulations: Snowfall accumulations at this time will generally remain below 2 inches across the area, with the greatest amount expected along and south of I-20. (Please refer to graphic below along with a few safety and informational graphics)

Impacts: Accumulating snowfall could lead to hazardous travel conditions early Monday morning. Wet roadways from rainfall could experience icing as temperatures fall below freezing Sunday night into Monday morning with bridges and elevated roadways being the highest risk for this happening. These hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

Good morning Shreveport partners,

A winter weather event appears increasingly likely for Sunday morning through Monday morning for most of the area, especially along and south of Interstate 20. Considerable uncertainty still exists with this forecast, particularly with snowfall accumulations, so please continue to watch for further updates.

Timing and Overview:
A mix of rain and snow will initially move into portions of East Texas (west of a line from Mount Vernon, to Longview, to Lufkin). However, the precipitation will transition to all rain by late Sunday morning as temperatures warm during the day. The rain will spread eastward across most of the remainder of the day Sunday.

The rain is once again expected to change to a mix of rain and snow Sunday evening, and this wintry mix will slowly move eastward and finally move out of North Central Louisiana by mid to late Monday morning.

Four State Impacts:

Expected Accumulations: Snowfall accumulations should generally remain less than 1 inch. The highest accumulations are expected along and south of Interstate 20 (see graphic below).

Impacts: Accumulating snowfall could lead to hazardous travel conditions. Wet roadways from the rainfall could experience icing as temperatures fall below freezing Sunday night/Monday morning. Bridges and elevated roadways will be at highest risk

Good morning Shreveport partners,

A moderate risk for severe weather is now in place for portions of the Four-States region for today, and into the morning hours on Wednesday.

Timing and Overview:

An isolated threat for severe weather will be possible this morning, and into the afternoon hours. Things really ramp up this evening, when the main event will likely start to arrive past 11pm in the form of a large quall line moving from north to south.

Four State Impacts:

Impacts: Damaging winds and large hail will be the main threats, with isolated tornadoes embedded in the line possible as well. Heavy rain is also becoming more likely, which may result in some localized flash flooding.

Good morning Shreveport partners,

The threat for severe weather will once again return to the region Tuesday evening, into Wednesday morning.

Timing and Overview:

Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will increase across the region Tuesday, and become more widespread by Tuesday night along and ahead of a cold front that will shift southeast through the area

Four State Impacts:
