West Harrison Volunteer Fire Department West Harrison Volunteer Fire Department proudly serves the western portion of Harrison County. We welcome anyone to come by or contact us for more information.

The West Harrison Volunteer Fire Department is nestled deep in the heart of Northeast Texas, between Longview and Hallsville. Our department is served by Emergency Services District #1 in Harrison County, and ultimately by the taxpayers that reside in this district. Once two small organizations, Gum Springs Volunteer Fire Department and Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department, they were combined in 20

02 forming the West Harrison Volunteer Fire Department. Since then, we have almost entirely updated our fleet of vehicles and all equipment, acquired a new station, and a part time staff of 10 that serves the maintenance needs during the work week. All of this ultimately helps to save the lives, protect the property, and lower the insurance premiums of every resident in our area. We hold regular business meeting on the 1st Monday of every month at our station #2 located on Lois Dr off of Smelley Rd. We also hold training meeting at the same location on the 3rd Monday of each month (sometimes changes due to type of training). Our 3 stations are located at:

As of today, Harrison County, including the City of Marshall, will be under a Burn Ban. Harrison County's initial Burn Ban order will be an emergency 7 day Burn Ban, however that WILL BE EXTENDED to a 90 day Burn Ban during next Thursday Commissioner’s Court hearing. That ban will be in effect until further notice.

We would love to extend a HUGE thank you to Nesbitt Fire Dept. For their help today on a vehicle fire on I-20. Some of their volunteers stopped by to lend a hand while we sent crews to assist Hallsville Fire Department with a woods fire around the 604 exit. Thank you to both departments for working so well with us.

It is hot hot out there folks, and even with the rain it is still very dry. Please be vigilant if you choose to burn and call 911 at the first sign of an out of control fire.

Texas A&M Forest Service has raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 3.

Recent and forecast wildfire activity, ongoing resource commitments, and the potential for lightning ignitions across the High Plains today and tomorrow are contributing to elevated fire risk. Strong outflow winds associated with thunderstorms may also result in periods of increased fire behavior and resistance to control on existing wildfires.

We continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to respond to any requests for assistance.

Good morning to everyone and hope you are having a great day. Its that time of year were we transition from flooding not long ago to now we are wishing the rain would come visit. Western Harrison County, as you will notice in the below info graphic, didn't get as much rain as our eastern brethren. We are pushing a 700 on the drought index for our area while just east is coming up to 500. These hot, low humidity days coupled with low cloud cover and wind has really started to dry everything out very fast. Please be mindful of this and take extra precautions throughout the near future. We would prefer you not to burn but if you must please have a good water source on hand and stay with it. If your towing anything make sure you have nothing dragging the road and your trailer tires are in good condition. We enjoy seeing our community and visiting with everyone but we prefer to do it under better situations.

With that said, if you've ever considered joining or curious about it, send us a message or stop by one of our stations. If the doors are up the we are there. Always looking for more help. If your not interested in fighting fire there is more that goes on than just that. Y'all stay safe.
