Our crews stayed incredibly busy protecting Longview this past month. In August, Longview Fire Department units responded to 2,022 incidents:

🔥 Fire — 63
🚑 Medical — 1,401
☣️ Hazmat — 38
🛟 Rescue — 7
🛠️ Public Service — 229
📋 Non-Emergency — 195
➕ All Other — 89

That’s more than 65 calls a day, with medical emergencies making up the large majority of what we do.

These totals do not include the fire and medical work our members did on deployments across Texas, including the Ross Fire in Palo Pinto County. We are proud of every crew that answered the call here at home and those who represented Longview on the line.

LONGVIEW FIRE DEPARTMENT WATER RESCUE TEAM HONORED WITH PRESTIGIOUS HIGGINS & LANGLEY AWARD

The Longview Fire Department is proud to announce that eight members of our Water Rescue Team have been recognized with the prestigious Higgins & Langley Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in swiftwater and flood rescue for their remarkable work during the devastating July 2025 floods in Kerrville, Texas.

The awards were presented on August 27, 2026, at the Oklahoma Swiftwater Rescue Conference in Oklahoma City, bringing national recognition to the skill, dedication, teamwork, and professionalism these Longview firefighters demonstrated during one of the most challenging flood responses in recent Texas history.

On July 2, 2025, Longview firefighters deployed with Texas Task Force 1 to Kerrville in response to catastrophic flooding throughout the Texas Hill Country. For the next 15 days, through July 17, our members worked tirelessly alongside fellow Task Force 1 personnel and rescuers from across Texas, conducting water rescue operations and assisting communities devastated by the flooding. They remained committed to the mission until additional Texas Task Force 1 crews arrived to relieve them.

The Higgins & Langley Memorial Awards honor outstanding achievement in the technical disciplines of swiftwater and flood rescue. Established in 1993 in memory of Earl Higgins and Jeff Langley, the awards recognize excellence in rescue operations, preparedness, training, teamwork, and the advancement of swiftwater and flood rescue capabilities. The organization describes the awards as recognizing not simply heroism, but the safety, competence, dedication, and far-reaching impact required to successfully operate in some of the most dangerous rescue environments imaginable.

This recognition is a tremendous honor for the Longview Fire Department. It reflects the countless hours our firefighters dedicate to training and preparing for the day when their skills are needed most.

Longview crews still active around the state for wildfire support.

🚨 DEPLOYMENT UPDATE 🚨

Please join us in keeping our Longview Fire Department members in your thoughts as they remain deployed across the great state of Texas! 🚒

Our dedicated personnel are currently answering the call through TIFMAS (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System) and the EMTF (Emergency Medical Task Force), providing critical wildland firefighting and medical response support where it’s needed most.

This includes having boots on the ground at the massive Ross Fire, which has rapidly burned at least 80,000 acres across Palo Pinto and Jack counties. The TIFMAS Strike Team is actively supporting these urgent firefighting efforts alongside the Texas A&M Forest Service.

We are incredibly proud of our highly trained team members who leave their families to protect our fellow Texans during these extreme, high-risk emergencies.

We have a couple of new ambulances hitting the streets soon with our updated color scheme. We are super happy with how they turned out.

For the past two weeks, members of the Longview Fire Department have been deployed across Texas through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) and the Emergency Medical Task Force (EMTF), supporting communities and emergency operations throughout the state.

Our members have been extremely busy, working long days alongside fire and EMS personnel from across Texas, including the Texas A&M Forest Service.
We are proud of their dedication, professionalism, and willingness to serve wherever they are needed.

These deployments also provide invaluable experience for our personnel and our department. The opportunity to operate at large-scale incidents, work within complex incident command systems, and coordinate with agencies from across the state strengthens the skills our members bring home to Longview.

The experience gained on these assignments directly improves our readiness for wildfires, major incidents, and other emergencies here at home.

We’re proud of our members representing the Longview Fire Department across Texas and look forward to welcoming them home safely.

UPDATE: Units are clearing at this time. Thanks to Longview Police Department and Texas A&M Forest Service for the help tonight.

Grass Fire:

Crews are working a grass fire in the area of Birdsong and Loop 281. Please avoid the area as crews are working to contain and extinguish the fire. Texas Forestry Service is on scene and assisting in the process.

Update 9:40 pm: Roadway has been cleared.

Please avoid the 5200 block of West Loop 281 near Birdsong Street while the Longview Fire Department works in the area.

Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route. We will provide an update once the area has been cleared.
