This week, we had the privilege of meeting with local and state representatives, business leaders, and community partners at a special event hosted by the Longview Chamber of Commerce. These conversations were focused on building a stronger East Texas through collaboration, shared resources, and a commitment to long-term investment in our communities.

As representatives of the U.S. Army in East Texas, our mission goes beyond enlistments. We are dedicated to helping develop the next generation of leaders. We want to ensure the young men and women who choose to serve not only reflect the best of East Texas but return home with valuable skills, experience, and a drive to give back to their communities.

With support from the Chamber of Commerce, Mayor of Longview Mrs. Ishihara, the Provost Marshal of TSTC, local ISD board members, and many others, we are turning that mission into action. Representing our station were SFC Terry, our Station Commander, and SFC Lauby, one of our Army Reserve Recruiters and Community Outreach/Event Coordinator—both of whom are committed to strengthening our connection with the local community.

Our action plan includes:

1. Education and Career Development:
We will increase our presence in schools and colleges to provide leadership workshops, ASVAB opportunities, and career planning tools that help students make informed decisions about their futures.

2. Community Engagement:
Our team will remain actively involved in local service projects and events, showing how Soldiers contribute to their communities before, during, and after their time in uniform.

3. Transition and Workforce Alignment:
We are working with local employers and educational institutions to align Army career paths with in-demand skills, ensuring returning Soldiers are equipped to thrive in the East Texas job market.

This event, made possible by the Longview Chamber of Commerce, was a meaningful step toward deeper collaboration between military service and community progress. We are proud to serve East Texas and committed to building a future we can all be proud of.

Together, we can build a better East Texas.

Congratulations to SFC Casillas for earning the “Six Shooter Award” from the 5th Recruiting Brigade. By securing 6 enlistments in the first quarter of the fiscal year, he earned a Certificate of Achievement from the Brigade, and since October he has secured 15 contracts—setting a new station record for the past 5 years. This accomplishment is a clear example of how consistent effort and focus lead to outstanding results.

As a token of appreciation for being the station’s biggest contributor, SFC Lauby designed and printed a custom Six Shooter Award for him to take to his next duty station. His dedication and results remind us that every effort counts and that maintaining high standards can inspire positive change within our community. Let his success encourage us to push forward, knowing that hard work and commitment make all the difference.

This morning we got the station caught up on the “First Blood” awards, recognizing SSG Young, SSG Pechacek, and SSG Haugh for locking in their first contracts as recruiters. That initial achievement reflects the hard work, persistence, and focus needed to succeed under pressure.

Today, we recognized SFC Aguilera for securing his first enlistment and officially marking his place in the fight. Over the past few months, he has put in the work, learned the craft, and now, he’s changed a life by giving someone the opportunity to serve.

In the duels of old, “first blood” signified the first decisive strike—a sign that the fight had truly begun. In recruiting, that first contract is much the same. It’s the moment theory turns into action, when effort pays off, and when a recruiter makes their first real impact on someone’s future.

Our station is proud to introduce “Hometown Excellence,” a new community engagement initiative dedicated to celebrating the outstanding achievements of our local schools, colleges, and community members. Through this initiative, we aim to recognize and support the hard work, dedication, and success of those striving for excellence in academics, athletics, career programs, and beyond.

As part of this effort, SFC Smith and SFC Lauby visited Kilgore High School’s welding class to present them with a custom trophy, designed and crafted by SFC Lauby himself. This trophy honors the class’s achievements and their commitment to excellence as they pursue a state championship.

We are incredibly proud of these students and their instructors for their dedication to their craft. Their hard work and perseverance set a strong example for others in the community. Keep pushing forward—we’re rooting for you every step of the way!

Had an awesome time at the Workforce Solutions East Texas Career Expo! With several hundred students in attendance, we connected with many motivated young men and women about their futures—including 50 students who stopped by to learn about Army opportunities. We also held a giveaway, and a lucky student .mota.3 took home the prize!

Huge shoutout to SFC Aguilera, SFC Bowers, SSG Sauter, and SSG Pechacek for making it a great event and for sharing valuable information to these soon to be graduates!
