Advisory Board: Amy Hill, Chair; Kristel Petrus; Amy Brantley, Ben Foster, Jennie Gates, Shannon Holman,Carrie Holt,Jona Plummer, Julie Fletcher,Morgan Linton, Angie Canada and Whitney Kelly Beginning in 1986, Open Arms Shelter began providing emergency safe housing for Arkansas' children who have been abused and/or neglected. Ranging in age from birth up to 18 years of age, Open Arms Shelter is one of he few emergency shelters in the state that will accept children under the age of eight, teenage mothers with their children and large sibling groups. Through the years, thousands of children have come from all areas of the state, but the majority of the children are from central Arkansas. In addition to a room, the children receive three home-cooked meals a day, snacks and around-the-clock supervision by a highly experienced and caring staff.
