Wildfire risk levels show how easily fires can start and how difficult they are to contain. They’re based on fuel dryness, drought conditions, and long‑range weather patterns across Arkansas.

A Low risk means vegetation doesn’t ignite easily, and any fire that does start will spread slowly and is usually straightforward to control.

A Moderate risk means fires can start from accidents or routine activities. They might not become serious, but extra caution is needed.

A High risk means fires ignite easily and spread quickly. An unattended brush pile or campfire can escape containment, and fires that aren’t addressed early may grow large.

An Extreme risk means fires can start in minutes, spread rapidly, and burn intensely. Any ignition has the potential to become a significant wildfire, with unpredictable and dangerous behavior.

At 2:14 pm today LFD was dispatched to a woods fire in the area of Summit Ridge and Hwy 70. The fire was located in a pine tree plantation off Cedar Creek and Hwy 70. Crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and no access. We finally gain access through a gate and was able to access the fire. AR Forestry was called in for assistance with 2 dozers and had a plane helping to locate the fire. Approximately 13 acres burned before a fire line could be placed around the fire. Appears the fire was started from a lightning strike on Saturday 8/22/26. A tree was located and appeared to have been struck by lightning and looks like where the fire originated. Thank you AR Forestry for your assistance. There were no structures in danger. LFD E2, E3, Sq. 1, Hummer and Side by Side were dispatched.
We were on scene for approximately 4 hours.

Several departments have been running illegal burns. We are in a burn ban. No burning please.
