Single Engine Plane Found Crashed with Pilot Still Alive

Orange County, IN – At approximately 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4th , the Indiana State Police received a call from the Louisville Airport and FAA about a possible downed aircraft near the Orange County / Lawrence County line. According to police, the crash involved a Lancair fixed-wing, single engine aircraft. Troopers from the Jasper District, Bloomington District and multiple local first responders searched throughout the night in the heavily wooded area. At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, the aircraft was located in a heavily wooded area in Orange County near Old Vincennes Road. The pilot was located inside the plane with non-life-threatening injuries. Due to the dense woods and hills, the pilot had to be carried out by stretcher. This rescue was only possible due to the coordinated effort by all agencies involved.

First Responders Involved – Trooper Noah Ewing, Trooper Sam Wagner, Trooper Mackenzi Alexander, Trooper Blake Leary, Trooper Logan McDowell, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County EMS/Fire Department, Martin County EMS/Fire Department, and Orange County EMS/Fire Department

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and will be taking over the investigation moving forward.
