Barn Owl Bakery is rallying support for Lopez Food Share as we gear up to purchase animals at the 4‑H Livestock Auction this Saturday, 8/15, and we need your help.
The Food Share provides free, nutritious food to Lopez families every week, and we’re committed to buying local meats, veggies, and breads whenever funding allows. Last year, thanks to community generosity, we purchased three animals raised by Lopez kids, and that meat went straight back into our community as some of the freshest, healthiest protein available. Truly a win‑win: supporting young farmers while feeding local families.
And speaking of young farmers, our island needs them! 4‑H is one of the most powerful ways Lopez youth learn to raise, care for, and understand animals. The auction is where their months of early mornings, chores, training, and dedication are recognized. If you’ve never been, it’s unforgettable: kids proudly showing their animals, the crowd bidding generously, and those grateful, glowing faces when their hard work is honored by their community. It’s the real deal.
Lopez Food Share doesn’t need a huge amount, a few thousand dollars makes a big impact. If you’d like to directly support purchasing 4‑H animals for Lopez families, please email Pedro, Food Program Manager, at [email protected]. He’ll help you make a fully tax‑deductible donation.
You can also donate online, just add a note that your gift is for the 4‑H livestock auction.
With fair weekend fast approaching, we’re on a tight turnaround. Donations are needed now to make sure we can show up strong for our local kids and our local food system.
Let’s lift up our young farmers and feed our community at the same time.
