Sydney Kratzer and Hailey Watts have been awarded the prestigious South Carolina Teaching Fellowship.

Sydney and Hailey will join the freshman cohort at Coastal Carolina University this fall where they will be offered numerous professional development opportunities and be involved with communities and businesses through various service projects and partnerships with local schools.

The state's Teaching Fellows Program, operated by the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA), was established in 1999 by the SC General Assembly. The mission of the program is to recruit talented high school seniors into the teaching profession and help them develop leadership qualities. Each year, the program provides Fellowships for up to 215 high school seniors who have exhibited high academic achievement, a history of service to their school and community, and a desire to teach in South Carolina.

Applicants for the program undergo a rigorous selection process that includes an online application, an interview and presentation in front of a team of three educators, and a scored response.

Following the rigorous selection process, applicants who are awarded a Fellowship receive up to $24,000 in yearly scholarships (up to $6,000 a year for four years) to attend a Teaching Fellows Institution in South Carolina. Each Fellow agrees to teach in South Carolina one year for every year he or she receives the Fellowship.

This morning, we proudly celebrated our Senior Beta Club Induction Ceremony. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Benjamin Prince (LHS Class of 1993 Alumnus) for delivering such an inspiring and encouraging message to all in attendance. Thank you for motivating and uplifting our students on this memorable occasion.

Congratulations to all of our inductees! We are incredibly proud of your accomplishments and excited to see all that your future holds.

Last night, we held our Senior Academic Scholarship Awards Ceremony, where many of our seniors were recognized for their outstanding achievements throughout their high school careers and presented with scholarships honoring their hard work and dedication.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the scholarship representatives who attended and presented scholarships to our students. Your support and investment in their futures are truly appreciated.

We also took time to honor the families of Jai’Veon Brown and Kaleb Brown, two beloved members of the Class of 2026 who are gone far too soon. Their memory will always remain a part of our school community.

During the ceremony, we presented the Senior Class Slideshow, announced the recipients of the Lion’s Pride Award, Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Class Laureate honors, and recognized our Junior Marshals.

Congratulations to all of our students! We are incredibly proud of each of you and look forward to all that your future holds.
