🎄✨ The holiday season is just around the corner, and you’re invited to join in the festive fun at Gunston Hall!

Christmastide is looking a little different this year! This December, we’re introducing a NEW holiday program designed especially for our littlest guests. Introducing Storytime and Santa! 🎅📚

Get ready for a day filled with festive tales, delicious treats, hands-on crafts, and, of course, a visit from the jolly old elf himself!

Pop in for an hour or stay all day! Enjoy classic Christmas stories throughout the day, sip on hot cocoa or warm c***r, savor seasonal treats, decorate a Christmas tree, and create a festive craft to take home.

🎅 And what would Christmastide be without Santa? He’ll be joining us to pose for photos, listen to Christmas wishes, and even share a few stories of his own!

Gather your little ones and make some merry memories with us this holiday season! ❤️🎄

🍂🥾 Strap on your explorer boots and join us for Nature Thursdays at Gunston Hall on November 5 at 10:30 a.m.!

Bring your preschool-aged ecologists for a morning of nature, discovery, and hands-on fun! Join Gunston Hall educators for a themed storytime and guided nature hike through the woods and waterways of our historic grounds. Along the way, little explorers will build essential skills, including preschool readiness, environmental awareness, fine and gross motor skills, and self-expression!

🌲🌳 November’s theme is TREES!

We’ll read The Busy Tree by Jennifer Ward, illustrated by Lisa Falkenstern. Then, we’ll head outdoors to explore the trees around us and discover how animals use them for food, shelter, and more! After our hike, little learners will get creative and practice their fine motor skills by making and decorating trees of their own.

Grab a friend, get creative, and join us for a festive evening at Gunston Hall! Our popular Holiday Wreath Making Workshop is back, and tickets are on sale NOW!

🌿 Alongside our friends at Quince Blossom Ridge, you'll create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind holiday wreath using locally grown greenery, dried flowers, grasses, and seasonal touches. No experience needed—just bring your holiday spirit!

Calling all little learners! We the Tots Storytime is TOMORROW!

Join us Tuesday, October 20, at 10:30 a.m. for the next edition of our themed storytime series, designed especially for our youngest learners!

This month's theme is Indigenous History! We'll read We Are Grateful: Otsaliheliga by Traci Sorell, illustrated by Frane Lessac.

After storytime, we'll get hands-on with corn cob painting and a game of marbles while practicing fine and gross motor skills. Then, we'll head outdoors for a shortened tour of the grounds to learn about the Indigenous peoples of Virginia and their history!

Have you been to a special event or program at Gunston Hall? Did you know that you could become a volunteer to support these programs first-hand?

Gunston Hall has a great group of volunteers who make our programs as interactive and engaging as they are! Whether you’d like to do crafts with kids and families at a civics program, talk to people about historic food and drink recipes at a Cocktails by Candlelight, or even help people solve a George Mason-themed escape room, we have volunteer opportunities for all of it!

We're looking forward to our upcoming Hearth Cooking Workshop, and while space is extremely limited, you're in luck! We still have a couple of spots left!

To tempt your taste buds, here's a sneak peek at a few dishes we'll be preparing over the open hearth:

🍐 Stewed Pears – Slices of pear gently poached in a lemon-scented w**e sauce. The perfect sweet treat for a cool fall day!

🎙️ ONE WEEK until History Bites!

We're kicking off something NEW! Join us Wednesday, October 21, at 12:30 p.m. as we launch Discovering History, a brand-new History Bites miniseries!

In celebration of Family History Month, we're welcoming Francesco De Salvatore, Director of the Alexandria Oral History Center, to explore the importance of preserving and sharing the stories that shape our communities.

A public historian, memory worker, and archivist, Francesco brings experience from the National Public Housing Museum, StoryCorps, and other organizations dedicated to preserving history and amplifying community voices.
