Be sure to stop in Lorton's Attic Thrift Store tomorrow!
As we move through the month of March and are coming off of International Women's Day, we all have hopefully taken some time to reflect on the important women in our lives.
We wanted to take this opportunity to shine a spotlight on an important woman to us, with a profound legacy, Christine Montgomery Herbstreith.
Christine lived in Lorton, not far from where we are located, for over 60 years. A member of Cranford United Methodist Church and a Chairperson of the Democratic Women of Northern Virginia, Christine was passionate about giving back to her community.
In 1975, after noticing a major need for food and clothing assistance in the community, Christine co-founded Lorton Community Action Center (Lorton Community Information Center at the time). As awareness spread and more community members got involved, LCAC began to flourish. Christine eventually stepped into the role of Director, where she continued to serve for over 20 years.
Today, her legacy lives on in all the staff, volunteers and community members who continue to make achieving our mission possible. Most notably, her grandaughter, Pam Chase, serves on the LCAC Board of Directors.
We are grateful for Christine and her contribution, which enabled us to be here, still serving families, almost 50 years later.
WOW! really surprised us with the amazing food drive for our pantry. A whopping 2,463 pounds valued at $4,408! One helper, a cute little guy carried in multiple cans. ❤️
Imagine having your form of heat cut off during one of the coldest weeks in February. Jane came home from work and her son came home from school to find out that they were without electricity and their heat! This family of three reached out to LCAC and we were able in less than 6 hours to get their electricity turned back on. Jane was grateful and is looking forward to the financial class that LCAC helped to get her in. YOUR support helps make things like this possible. Thank you!! YOU make this possible!
A HUGE thank you to our friends J.Crew Fair Oaks who held their annual coat collection for LCAC. More than 79 coats were received thanks to their efforts! These coats will go out to LCAC families over the coming weeks.
Thank you to our current 2022 gala sponsors!
