Thank you to the Port of Long Beach and Columbia Bank for sponsoring this year’s Youth Leadership Program End of Year Celebration!

This year, we had the privilege of awarding scholarships to our graduating seniors in recognition of their commitment to advocacy, service, and leadership. We also welcomed our incoming Board members, who will help guide the program in the year ahead.

We are so proud of how this program continues to grow and even more excited to see what this next generation of leaders accomplishes.

Until then, enjoy a well-deserved summer break! Follow our YLP Instagram to see what they’re up to this summer

As we wrap up our Mental Health Awareness Month series, we want you to know that no one is meant to navigate life’s challenges alone.

At Casa Youth Shelter, every youth we serve must leave our care with a connection to a safe, stable adult they can turn to when life gets hard. If they are unable to identify someone in their own life, we work with them to establish that connection through a trusted adult within our organization.

Our counselor shares what that can look like: a friend you trust, a family member who listens, a coach, teacher, mentor, or another caring adult who consistently shows up.

If you’ve ever reached out to someone when you were struggling, you’ve already practiced one of the most important mental health skills there is: asking for help.

Because healing doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens in connection.

A huge thank you to Run Seal Beach. 🏃

The Casa Youth Shelter team participated in the Run Seal Beach 5K/10K. Now, through the support of a Run Seal Beach grant, that same community is helping us create something our kids will use every single day.

Their grant is going toward revamping our sport court with updated flooring and a brand new pickleball setup - a space where kids can move, play, and just be kids.

From the starting line to our shelter doors, this is what community support looks like.

Thank you to our Spring 2026 Field Worker cohort—our incredible shelter interns who spent this semester alongside our youth.

At Casa Youth Shelter, our internship and fieldwork programs are hands-on training grounds for future counselors, social workers, and advocates learning what it truly means to show up for young people in crisis with consistency, compassion, and care.

And while our students gain real-world experience, our kids gain something important too: more trusted adults in their corner.

We’re incredibly proud of this cohort and grateful they chose to grow with us.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor those who served and sacrificed for our country.

The meals, the laughter, and the simple moments with the people we care about feel a little more meaningful today.

This photo may be peak early 90s energy — birthday balloon and all 🎈 — but the work behind it continues every single day.

Today we’re celebrating Luciann Maulhardt, who spent 25 years helping lead Casa Youth Shelter and helping build the foundation that continues supporting kids in crisis today.

Happy Birthday, Luciann — and thank you for being part of Casa’s story. 💙

When everything feels like too much, this is one way back to basics.

Our counselors walk through the “5-4-3-2-1” grounding technique—using your five senses to help bring you back to what’s around you in the present.

This is part three of our Mental Health Awareness Month series—tools our Casa Kids use, shared with everyone who might need them.

You’ll find us out in the community just as much as you’ll find us at the shelter.

Outreach is how connections start—at schools, events, and in everyday moments where youth and families need to know someone is there.

Sometimes it’s planned. Sometimes it’s a chance run-in. Either way, it matters.

Because support doesn’t start at our doors—it starts wherever they are.

Hosting something at a school or in the community? Bring us in.

Sometimes your body needs to hear that it’s safe before your mind can catch up.

Our counselor walks through deep breathing and butterfly tapping: two coping skills that work with your nervous system to help you ease stress. It’s something you can try anytime, anywhere you are.

Simple tools. Real support.

You can help send our Casa Kid off to prom in style by providing all the things that make prom night special: a tuxedo and shoes, a fresh haircut, hair and makeup for his date, a nice dinner to fuel a night of dancing, a limo ride, and those once-in-a-lifetime prom photos.

Moments like this are rare for teens experiencing life without consistent family support. That’s why our Casa Family matters so much. Together, we can show up for our future Prom King and give him a night filled with confidence, joy, and memories he’ll carry with him long after prom is over.

Head to the Linktree in our bio to donate towards his prom fund!
