🌧️ Get ready, Los Alamitos — rainy season is on the way! ☔️

One of the easiest ways to prepare for the rain is to clean out your gutters! 🍂 Clogged gutters can cause water to back up, leading to roof damage, water intrusion, and flooding around your home.

Here are a few more ways to prepare:
🏠 Clear gutters and drains of leaves and debris.
🌳 Trim trees and loose branches.
🔦 Keep an emergency kit, flashlights, batteries, and sandbags ready.
🚗 Never drive through flooded roads — turn around, don’t drown!
📲 Sign up for emergency alerts at AlertOC.gov.

A little preparation goes a long way in keeping our community safe! 💙

🌎 DROP. COVER. HOLD ON. 🌎

🚨 LOS ALAMITOS — ARE YOU READY? 🚨
Today, Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 10:15 AM, communities across California and around the world will participate in the Great ShakeOut, the world’s largest annual earthquake drill! 🌎🌐

The Los Alamitos Police Department and the City of Los Alamitos encourage YOU to take a few minutes to practice what you should do when an earthquake strikes — whether you're at home, at work, at school, out running errands, or anywhere else.

An earthquake can happen any day at any time, and there may be little or no warning, so knowing what to do before the shaking starts can help keep you and those around you safer.

🫳 DROP
Drop to your hands and knees before the shaking knocks you down.
🛡️ COVER
Cover your head and neck under a sturdy desk or table. If shelter isn't nearby, protect your head and neck with your arms, and move away from windows and other hazards.
🤝 HOLD ON
Hold on to your shelter until the shaking stops and be prepared to move with it.
The Great ShakeOut is also a great opportunity to:
✅ Review and update your emergency plans
✅ Check your emergency supplies
✅ Secure items in your home or workplace that could cause damage or injuries
✅ Talk with your family, coworkers, classmates, and neighbors about earthquake preparedness

Take the time today to practice. Take the time today to prepare. A few minutes of preparation can make a difference when an earthquake happens.
