We’ve had such a fun and vibrant day with Mosaic Assembly Art Workshop at the Library!

The entire upper level of Mesa Public Library burst into color and creativity as community members of all ages helped assemble the new Art in Public Places–commissioned mural for the south-facing wall of the Justice Center.

A huge thank‑you to Austin‑based mosaic artist J Muzacz and his incredible team from The Mosaic Workshop for leading this hands‑on experience!
J Muzacz

All workshop slots are currently full, but patient and enthusiastic community members can still stop by on Saturday from 10–4 p.m. and Sunday from 1–4 p.m. We’ll accommodate walk‑ins whenever space becomes available due to no‑shows.

After a week of being closed, the Los Alamos County Community Services Department is happy to announce that Piñon Park Pool will reopen on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

On Friday, May 29, 2026, Piñon Park Pool experienced an unexpected issue with the boiler system. Since then, the pool has been closed as staff and other County departments gather information, troubleshoot, and determine a path forward.

As a result of working with other County departments, a course of action has been developed to open the facility and maintain a safe environment. The course of action may require some disruption; however, we will keep you informed.

Staff is happy to announce that with the warmer weather, the pool is maintaining the required operating temperature without the use of the boiler, which allows the public to use the water, and solar-powered hot water deck showers will be available to pool users, making it possible for the pool to be open.

Additional information will be provided as we work through resolving the boiler issues and complete the necessary inspections. We thank the public for being understanding and supportive of the situation and hope to see you at Piñon Park Pool.

For additional questions, please contact Katherine Hudspeth, Recreation Superintendent, at [email protected].

Do you see a blank canvas? So do we!!

The Los Alamos County Community Services Department would like to invite the Community to decorate the concrete Jersey Bouncers at Ashley Pond Park, to enhance the beauty of this safety measure.

The Jersey Bouncers are a safety measure instituted in 2025 to help protect concertgoers from a vehicle entering the grassy area of Ashley Pond Park. Los Alamos County has heard the community's concerns about the lack of appeal and has designated the space available to the public to contribute their creativity to the community through the Summer Concert Series.

Beginning Friday, June 5, 2026, through August 28, 2026, the barriers will be available as a canvas for art to be created. There are 49 spaces of 10-foot sections for to-be artists to select a space, for no cost.

To sign up for a space, artists scan the QR code that is provided on several of the Jersey Bouncers and complete the short form via their smartphone. For those who do not have a smartphone, please contact [email protected] to request a link to the form. The form also provides a set of rules to help guide users on what is allowed; these rules are similar to the Community Art Tunnel.
