David Meyerhofer gave to United Way for decades before discovering his great-great-grandfather helped start it.

"I don't think of it as giving back," David says. "I feel it is our duty to help those who are in a less fortunate situation."

Meet David — and the story behind a 120-year connection to this movement.

David Meyerhofer has been part of United Way longer than he knew. His story stretches from a graduate student's first gift to a 120-year-old cathedral in Denver — and right here in Northern New Mexico.

A new chapter for United Way Northern New Mexico.
After 6 years of dedicated leadership, Executive Director Cindy Padilla is retiring — leaving behind a stronger, more connected organization than she found.
Stepping into the role is Donna Milanovich, unanimously appointed by our Board of Directors. Donna has spent nearly three years building partnerships, securing funding, and strengthening programs alongside our team — and she's ready to carry this work forward.
We're grateful for Cindy's legacy and excited for what's ahead. 🌟

United Way Northern New Mexico has named Donna Milanovich as its next Executive Director. Already known to partners and donors through her nearly three years with UWNNM, Milanovich steps into the role with deep organizational knowledge and a track record in nonprofit leadership. The community of Española faced a frightening night. A fast-moving fire burned through more than 100 acres of bosque along Riverside Drive, destroying homes and displacing families who are waking up this morning with real uncertainty about what comes next.
United Way Northern New Mexico has served Rio Arriba County for more than 70 years — and Española is our community. We are in contact with our partner network today to assess where we can help coordinate resources and fill gaps in the response.
If you were affected by last night's fire or know someone who was, please reach out to the La Mesilla/San Pedro Community Center at 30 County Road 8 in Española. We will continue to monitor the situation and share resources as they become available.
To the residents, first responders, and partner organizations already on the ground: thank you.
