Meet Ryan, FSN's new Los Alamos Early Childhood Collaboration(LAECC) Coordinator!

๐˜ผ๐™—๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฉ ๐™๐™ฎ๐™–๐™ฃ
Originally from Washington State, Ryan has been in New Mexico for over 25 years, and Los Alamos for five. He has worked with the community through a variety of roles, including for REI as a Lead Shop Tech and Rentals Manager, PEEC as the Visitor Services Manager, and Tewa Women United as the Food & Seed Sovereignty Environmental Justice Coordinator. At the core of these community support roles is his work with Strong In Nature, a nonprofit co-created with his partner that focuses on supporting survivors of trauma by creating safe spaces for them in the outdoors. This role has allowed Ryan to blend two of his biggest passions - helping people and being outside. Since a young age, Ryan has known the healing power of community forged in nature and he is grateful he can pass that on to others. It helped him survive a spinal cord injury, find his chosen life-long friendships/family, and connected him with the greatest gift of his life, his wife and stepchildren.
Ryan loves to draw and make art and is an aspiring professional Bigfoot researcher!

๐™๐™ฎ๐™–๐™ฃ'๐™จ ๐™๐™–๐™ข๐™ž๐™ก๐™ฎ
Ryanโ€™s family was small for a time, just him and his mother until she passed away in 2000. He credits his mom as one of the first influences in his connection to early childhood education. She ran a daycare out of their house, worked as an early childhood educator, and centered his education in outdoor play, loose parts play, art, and environmental education. She taught Ryan that family is not always just our relatives but who we choose along the way. Her influence shows up now in his amazing relationship with his partner, Jamie, and two incredible step-kids. As a family, they love to garden together.

๐™๐™ฎ๐™–๐™ฃ'๐™จ ๐™๐™Ž๐™‰ ๐™Ž๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ง๐™ฎ
Ryan first learned about FSN when he was working for PEEC and they had some overlap with Lucky Ducky Day. His partner, Jamie, also worked with FSN for a period of time.
Being the LAECC Coordinator seemed like the perfect role for him to blend his knowledge around healing himself, family, and the environment while connecting with the community. Ryan says about FSN, โ€œThis is a place to come connect, feel seen and safe. There is a diverse and deeply caring team at FSN whose only goal is to support you and your family.โ€
