Happy Super Bowl Sunday (or Superb Owl, to some) to those who celebrate! Santa Clara County’s Levi’s Stadium hosts the big game today, and we are seeing people from all over join us for this event.

One area of concern for many locals has been ICE. What role will ICE play during the festivities? Will local residents be harassed or detained? Santa Clara County Sheriff Bob Jonsen said in a press conference on Jan. 29, “We will not be working or supporting ICE Immigration Enforcement” (per Los Altos Town Crier). Thank you to all of those who spoke up and worked with local authorities to make it clear that ours is a welcoming and inclusive community.

Some of our members are planning to attend, and many more will watch from home. Wherever you are, I hope you can relax and enjoy the camaraderie of friends and fans, and of course the thrill of seeing sports achievements from those at the top of their game.

Learn about a November 4 election in Pennsylvania that will have major consequences for the 2026 and 2028 races in this crucial swing state. Three Democratic judges are on the ballot; voters will vote “yes” or “no” on retaining them on the court. The right wing is pouring money into this race to flip the seat, and many Democrats do not realize how important this election is. A MAGA state supreme court could greenlight a gerrymander of blue House seats into red ones and make sure there is no judicial oversight to challenge Republican election-rigging schemes in 2026 or 2028.

California will hold a statewide special election on November 4, 2025, for voters to decide whether to adopt a new set of congressional maps. The redistricting was initiated by Governor Gavin Newsom and Democratic legislators in response to a similar mid-decade redistricting effort by Republicans in Texas.
Marc Berman commented: "Donald Trump has unapologetically targeted California time and again over the past six months - targeting workers who power our economy, targeting California’s best-in-the-world UC system, targeting the healthcare systems that Californians rely on when they get sick. Realizing how unpopular these actions are, Trump and Republicans now want to rig our democracy to guarantee they remain in power. We did not choose this fight, we do not want this fight, but with our democracy on the line, California cannot run away from this fight.”
