Meet the First Cohort of 2020 Clay Hunt Fellows | Team Rubicon

When Team Rubicon's Clay Hunt Fellows Program (CHFP), named in honor of original Greyshirt and Marine Corps veteran Clay Hunt, launched in 2012 we had no idea how much it would grow. Today, the Clay Hunt Fellows Program is a 6-month leadership and training program that equips veterans with tools to redefine their identity out of uniform and empowers them to lead a life of continued service. This March, Team Rubicon selected its newest CHFP cohort. Meet the fellows of BC-2.

When the Clay Hunt Fellowship launched in 2012 we had no idea how much it would grow. Now, 81 fellows later, we welcome 12 veterans to Base Camp 2.

Back Home in Houston

After Hurricane Harvey, tens of thousands of families in Houston were forced out of their homes. Floodwaters left behind damaged houses, wrecked possessions, mold, and storm debris.

In 2017, we committed to rebuilding 100 homes for impacted families by 2020. And in February 2020, we handed over the keys to Ms. Gladys, our 100th homeowner.

Take a look at the effort that went into Houston Rebuild, how we served in Florida and Puerto Rico, and how we’ll continue to serve communities affected by disaster.

Thanks to all of the community members, volunteers, and partners who helped those we serve get back home.

Thanks to SNEAKY BIG for partnering to produce this clip.

Solid Foundation

Last month, we welcomed home our 100th homeowner in #Houston. It took a lot of work and helping hands to get there. Together with our partners at Merrell, we wanted to highlight one story of service from just one of the many individuals who poured sweat and time into Houston Rebuild: Clay Hunt Fellow Dylan Nuttle.

Team Rubicon | Built To Serve

Let’s share our appreciation (get loud) for all the badass women, serving in grey, bringing their tenacity and grit to Team Rubicon. In every corner of TR Nation is a woman leading, continuing her service. To the brave women, homeowners, and community leaders we’ve met after the storm, your courage inspires us. We can’t say it enough. Thank you.

When It Pours, There’s Rains

Morgan Rains can do it all on a disaster response from running a chainsaw to serving as an Incident Commander following the Sonoma County wildfires, and her passion for service is undeniable; “Team Rubicon has taught me about humanity and the capacity of people to give back,” she says. Greyshirts are on the scene in Cookeville, TN ready to do what we do best: help make things better for a hurting community. The east Nashville area was hit with a severe weather system earlier this week that produced a tornado with estimated gusts up to 175mph, causing devastating consequences for our neighbors in Tennessee. We're getting straight to work removing and managing debris by hand and with trained TR sawyer teams. Expedient home repairs—things like tarping damaged roofs—will be critical. Many Greyshirts call Tennessee home, and they will continue to be there to serve in the weeks ahead. #BuiltToServe

How to Prepare for a Coronavirus Quarantine, According to Experts

Team Rubicon is monitoring COVID-19. Team Rubicon’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. David Callaway, shares tips on preventing spread of the virus.

“The CDC has great guidance on what people can do at home. The key is to start planning right now,” says Dr. David Callaway, chief medical officer at Team Rubicon, a U.S.-based disaster-response organization.

“If someone’s sick in your house, you should try to keep them isolated like you would if they had the flu,” says Callaway. “Don’t share a bathroom, don’t share towels, clean up any surface that they’ve been touching.”

Nashville Tornado: Recon Update 3.4.20

Yesterday morning, a powerful tornado touched down in Nashville. There has been extensive structural damage and significant loss of life, with many people still missing. Team Rubicon has deployed Recon teams to the affected area, with a specific focus on east Nashville through Cookeville, where the greatest reports of damage are currently coming from.

Our teams on the ground will continue to gauge the level of need to determine Team Rubicon’s response by surveying impacted areas, assessing damage, and meeting with local emergency officials.

Click below for an update from Kate who is currently on the ground in Nashville.

Katie from our recon team in TN provides an update on what they're seeing on the ground following the EF-3 tornado touched down outside Nashville.

PATRIOT South 2020 is a joint, interagency exercise, sponsored by the National Guard Bureau (NGB), taking place at Gulfport Combat Readiness Training Center, Miss. and the surrounding area Feb. 25 to March 7. It is a training exercise designed for civilian emergency management and responders to work with military entities in the same manner that they would during disasters.

Team Rubicon is partaking in PATRIOT South 2020 and recently we provided tree cleanup to Ida Mae Jones a 90 year old survivor of a tornado that struck her home this past December.

Ida was sitting in her living room watching the news about the storm when the tornado hit her home.

She said, “The lights went black and I got up and ran, then the tornado hit.” Ida is a pillar in the community and known to help those in need.

Her daughter, Doris Beavers said, “Mom has never turned anyone away that was hungry.”

Ida has lived in the same home for the past 71 years, in Laurel, Mississippi. Team Rubicon is helping get her house ready for the rebuilding to begin.

Jim Laman, senior associate for the Southeast Region with Team Rubicon said his favorite part about this work is, “Getting a hug from Mrs. Ida, seeing her face, that’s why we do this, and that’s why we come back”.

Her grandson Wesley McLaurin said, “Her secret to life is prayer, and obedience to God.” Wesley lives in the community and has been helping his grandmother since her house was devastated by the tornado.

Wesley said she is motivated to get the area cleared, the house repaired, and move back home.

“There were some days when I really wanted to lose it,” Wyatt said. “I didn’t know when I was going to set foot back in here. I thank God for the opportunity to walk back in. No leaks, no cracks, no scrunching when I walk on the floor. It’s just good to know you’ve been here, and that your hands and handiwork are all over this house.”

Gladys’ life was uprooted in 2017 when she lost her home to Hurricane Harvey. This week, Team Rubicon welcomed the retired high school teacher back home in Houston.

“I cannot express how grateful, I mean truly grateful, that this has become a reality for me to move back home,” Gladys said before cutting the ribbon.

The celebration also marked the 100th home completed by TR volunteers serving on our Houston Rebuild Operations since 2018. Help us welcome Gladys home! 👏

During Disaster Relief, Change Your Socks | Team Rubicon

One of the most critical things you can do when you’re on a mission is to change your socks so your feet are more prepared to continue the ‘walk.’ It’s true in the military, and it’s true in humanitarian work. For us, we found that ‘change your socks’ is more about being ready to move out or lend support when it’s time to do demanding work.

General information

Team Rubicon seeks to provide our veterans with three things they lose after leaving the military: a purpose, gained through disaster relief; community, built by serving with others; and self-worth, from recognizing the impact one individual can make. Coupled with leadership development and other opportunities, TR also aims to "bridge the gap" between military and civilian life.

Hello I'm working on organizing a team effort at work to provide help to the people of the Bahamas. I'm an Army Veteran and have taken the lead on this and looking for any assistance on who I can contact to plan a trip to help those in need. We will fund the trip through donations at work and many of us will pay out of pocket to help anyone in need. Can you assist me or point me in the right direction? We want an opportunity to do our share and help those recover who have lost everything. Thank you

Hey, Jeremy.....Hope you are doing great! Still love you the most!
You should all know this guy is a pathological liar. He was never a PJ or Pararescuman or probably in the military ever. If he made him produce his DD form 214 and see if anything he says is on there, its on mine. Don't like him off with the age-old excuse for stolen valor of "it's Classified" bullsh*t. Ask in for Photos all PJs have them.
A person (John Saguto) is making some claims that are incorrect. He also claims membership with Pararescue and is not on our roster. Since he claims to belong to your association and if everything he says is false I hope someone will review his background check, references and qualifications as well as look at his DD214. Contacting the Pararescue Association will confirm he is not on our lists and no one from our Vietnam PJs ever heard of him. Pretty much a stolen valor issue.
For GSA SmartPay3 (government employees) apparently you can use Amazon smile with Prime Buisness. According to my DOC APC, as long as it doesn't cost the government (tax payers) anything and it doesn't directly benifit the card holder it is perfectly fine.
