Last week, Greyshirt volunteers wrapped up wildfire mitigation work at Bear Creek Scout Camp in Hunt, Texas.

The camp asked us for help with hazardous trees, built-up brush, and overgrown areas sitting right next to cabins, access routes, and the spaces campers and staff use every day.

Our sawyers cleared fuels, dropped hazard trees, and opened up safer access across the property. This was the first phase of a larger effort to help Kerr County get ready before the next fire season.

Team Rubicon is on the ground in Escambia County, Florida, responding to Hurricane Isaias.

Our Greyshirt volunteers are helping impacted communities begin the road to recovery through critical disaster response operations, including:

🧹 Muck-Outs: Removing water-damaged materials, furniture, and mud from homes to help them dry out and prepare for repairs.

🏠 Roof Tarping: Installing temporary roof coverings to protect homes from further damage.

🌳 Chainsaw Operations: Safely clearing fallen trees from affected areas.

🚜 Light & Heavy Equipment Operations: Using specialized equipment to move storm debris and clear the way for recovery.

🛠️ General Debris Removal: Helping communities reclaim their spaces and return to normal.

🗺️ Disaster Mapping & Work-Order Management: Mapping damage, tracking recovery efforts, and helping reduce the burden on communities as they navigate disaster recovery grants.

Every task completed brings neighbors one step closer to recovery.

Speed to need. That’s the Team Rubicon way.

Before Hurricane Isaias made landfall, our Greyshirt volunteers were already on the ground in Milton, Florida.

We cleared roads so utility crews could restore power to 100,000 residents. For some, that meant groceries saved from spoiling. For one resident, it meant their oxygen tank was running again.

Disaster recovery doesn’t end when the headlines fade. And you don’t have to make headlines to matter.

Over the weekend, Greyshirt volunteers trained in a flood fight methods course, building the skills needed to help communities prepare for and respond to flooding.

With a Super El Niño raising concerns about heavy rainfall and flooding across Southern California, being prepared is more important than ever.

Greyshirts learned about flood behavior, patrols, flood-related hazards, and hands-on exercises, including sandbag filling and passing, boil sack ring construction and more.

As Tropical Storm Rachel brought high surf and localized flooding to Southern California, the City of Newport Beach called on Team Rubicon for support.

Over the weekend, two dozen Greyshirt volunteers prepared more than 2,000 sandbags to help the community defend against rising water.

When disaster threatens, it’s neighbors helping neighbors. Local officials, community members, and Greyshirts working side by side to protect homes, prepare for what’s next, and look out for one another.

Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Navy!

For Nika, six years in the U.S. Navy helped shape not only her career, but the leader she is today.

As an Aviation Structural and Hydraulic Mechanic (AM3), her time in service reinforced the importance of teamwork, communication, accountability, and understanding how every role contributes to the mission.

Those lessons continue to guide her today at Team Rubicon, where she now serves as Long-Term Recovery Manager.

Nika says, "Whether you're turning wrenches on an aircraft or helping a family rebuild after a disaster, the mission is never accomplished by one person alone. It's the collective effort, shared knowledge, and willingness to grow together that makes it possible. That's something I carried out of the Navy and continue to value every day at Team Rubicon."

On the Navy's birthday, we celebrate the experiences, lessons, and people who continue to make an impact long after the uniform comes off.

Hurricane Isaias Update | Jeff Byard, Chief Programs Officer, Team Rubicon

Team Rubicon’s Hurricane Isaias response is underway in Florida’s Panhandle, where our Greyshirt volunteers are working to restore access and help communities begin the recovery process.

Our route clearance teams have already removed 54 obstructions in and around Milton, Florida, helping reopen roads, provide access for utility crews, and support critical community services.

Beginning tomorrow, we’re expanding our relief efforts in Milton and throughout Santa Rosa County.

Our work is just beginning, and we’ll continue to adapt our response to meet the needs on the ground.

Hurricane Isaias tore through the Gulf Coast this weekend, bringing down trees and power lines from Alabama to the Florida Panhandle.

Greyshirt volunteers are on the ground in communities across the Gulf, clearing roads so first responders and families can get through.

In hard-hit Milton, Florida, Greyshirts cleared 27 obstructions on Saturday alone.

But the work isn't over. We’re working with local authorities to identify where our teams are needed next. As communities assess the damage, there is more work ahead.
