STOP THE UC TUITION INCREASE!!!

The UC regents will be holding a meeting next week, Wednesday March 14, to vote whether or not they should RAISE TUITION for non-residence (international and out- of- state) students! Today in Sacramento, legislators enthusiastically supported this decision. It is time that the University of California STOPS looking at non-residence students as CASH-COWS. We will be organizing ALL WEEK to show the Regents that they CANNOT make the UC even less affordable than it already is. Sign our petition Monday (3/11) and Tuesday (3/12) all day on BruinWalk to oppose the tuition hike, and participate in our photo campaign as we show solidarity with students, organized labor, and staff that will be joining us as well. On Wednesday, we will be making public comments to the Regents when they meet to vote on it at 8am. You can sign up to make a public comment with us here:

We strongly believe in the importance of the stories of all those who are a part of the UCLA community and add to the diversity of our beautiful campus. We also believe that our student government should play a role in providing students’ platforms to share their narratives — and we are so happy that tonight was one such night.

Our office partnered with the Mixed Student Union at UCLA at UCLA for our event “Campus Climate - Being a person of mixed heritage.” It was both heart warming and uplifting to hear the stories of our incredible panelists!

We thank all the students who came out and took part in the discussion that followed! Shoutout to our Our Community, Our Discourse Directors Merzia Subhan & Hanniyah Bilwani for putting on this event!

If you or your student group/community feel like you have a story you’d like to share with the rest of this campus. Or a topic you’d like to explore, please feel free to reach out to us. After all, its our community and OUR discourse!

In the last 100 years of UCLA’s history, USAC has only had 3 international students EVER elected to council. Last year, the passing of the international student referendum meant that representation on the council table for international students was institutionalized.

But the work only began there.

With problems of financial wellness, mental health, academic accessibility, career opportunities and more; the international students need support from the UC system.

Our advocacy team along with some international student ambassadors went to UCR today to present to the UCSA board meeting about issues that impact our community.

Do you have an idea for a project or advocacy effort?

Do you need help transforming your great ideas into reality?

U Do USAC is a program designed to help students navigate the process of implementing THEIR projects and events at UCLA. This program gives students the opportunity to bring their ideas for events to life, cutting through the red tape of administration and clubs.

For example, if YOU have an idea for something you want to see done at your campus and don't know where to start, just send us your idea and we will navigate the process with you.

General information

USAC is your undergraduate student government and the General Representative 1 Office is one of the 14 offices that form the council. The council members are elected by the student body each year and have access to various campus resources, administration, and funds that aid them in fulfilling their platforms and projects for their specific positions. The vision of our General Representative Office this year is to increase the accessibility to our student government and to make sure that our student government is accountable to our campus communities. Here are the four platforms we’ll be implementing to achieve this: 1. Konversations at Kerck: brings UCLA administrators, faculty, and staff out to student spaces such as Kerckhoff to build networks and foster substantial relationships between members of our campus community. 2. U Do USAC: Creates space and institutional support for students who are not traditionally involved in USAC to introduce their own programs and advocacy efforts via USAC offices, including, but not limited to the General Representative One Office. 3. Our Community Our Discourse: Seeks to redefine the way that USAC engages with communities on campus. We aim to promote a proactive approach towards issues pertaining to campus climate and campus communities through a series of sustained dialogue. 4. International Students Resource Taskforce: Aims to advocate for international student issues while working alongside other campus entities and departments.
