United Way of Greater Los Angeles

United Way of Greater Los Angeles Breaking the cycle of poverty for our most vulnerable neighbors: low-income families, students, and those experiencing homelessness.
United Way of Greater Los Angeles (UWGLA) has the unique honor of being one of the oldest and largest charities in LA County. Because of our deep roots in the community, we are able to bring about change in ways that build trust and establish ties between community leaders, businesses, organizations, and individuals. We believe all families should have access to basic needs like housing. We believe all working adults should have the opportunities to become financially stable so they can provide for their families’ future. We believe all kids should have a quality education and graduate from high school prepared for college and the workforce. This account is being used for campaign purposes by United Way of Greater Los Angeles - Yes on HHH (Nonprofit 501(c)(3).

"In the coming weeks, Caltrans will deploy an additional 20 travel trailers to Los Angeles County and dispatch dozens more throughout the state." Yess! 👏👏This is the type of action we need more of! To support our homeless neighbors by providing a safe place they can come home to every night. #housing

Some moments from today’s memorial honoring Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, and all the victims who tragically lost their lives yesterday morning.

We’re here not just because we’re fans, but because Kobe stood for so much more than just basketball.

Through his support of HomeWalk, our annual fundraiser, Kobe helped raise millions of dollars to help end homelessness in Los Angeles. And his example helped inspire thousands more to give their time and energy to those in need.

His commitment to improve the lives of others lasted his entire life, and continues through the work of the Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation.

Today, we’re all hurting.

For Kobe, Gianna, Payton, Alyssa, Sarah, John, Keri, Christina, Ara, and their families and friends who need our love and support now more than ever.

Kobe’s legacy of charity and community building goes far beyond the court, and we are united in our efforts to continue what he and Vanessa started—a home for every family, and compassion for our most vulnerable neighbors.

❤️

United Way of Greater Los Angeles Remembers Kobe Bryant

United Way mourns the loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant. Kobe first came to the organization as the Honorary Chair for HomeWalk, United Way’s annual run/walk to end homelessness in 2011, bringing tremendous awareness and support to help our most vulnerable neighbors. He served in that role for several years, giving his time, talent and compassion for those suffering on our streets. He was kind, gracious, and available to the thousands of fans who learned about our homeless crisis and that their hero was championing an important cause. We are forever grateful to Kobe and the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation for their support of HomeWalk and making such a difference in our communities. Our heartfelt prayers are with his family and loved ones during this shocking tragedy. 💔

The Bill That Could Make California Livable Again

Newly introduced California Senate Bill 50 could "effectively disallow single-family zoning in many neighborhoods. It would force wealthy suburbs to permit the construction of apartment buildings and duplexes. And it would reorient the state’s growth away from sprawl toward infill. Housing would get more plentiful, and thus cheaper." ~ according to Annie Lowrey, The Atlantic

S.B. 50 would make the state denser, cheaper, greener, and more affordable.

A step in the right direction! 👏👏

LIVE NOW: In Sacramento, delivering a 40-point Comprehensive Crisis Response Strategy and a proposal to establish a statewide mandate that requires local and state government create housing and supportive service capacity necessary to substantially reduce homelessness. The Comprehensive Crisis Response Strategy is a road map for boldly addressing the moral and civic crisis of our time. We thank the Governor for appointing this Council and for recognizing that we are in the midst of an emergency, and that we need ingenuity and prudence to right the course of our State’s history. California must have a set of clear public policies that scale up what we know works to prevent and end homelessness to a level required to abate this mounting catastrophe, that rationally prioritizes housing and services based on need, and that prevents the dramatic spike in homelessness for ever happening again.

Creating Pathways Out of Poverty

We’re on a mission to permanently break the cycle of poverty for our most vulnerable neighbors: low-income families, students, veterans, and the homeless.

That means tackling the big problems. The ones people think can’t be solved. The ones that require leaders across sectors to unite and design groundbreaking solutions to our biggest problems. And by focusing on education, housing, and financial stability, we can attack poverty at its origin to ensure better lives for all Angelenos.

Real and sustaining change requires more than money. By focusing on local, state, and national public policy, we fight poverty’s root causes through the systems that sustain them. We led the fight that resulted in nearly $5 billion in civic funds being dedicated to solutions to ending poverty.

We’re on a mission to permanently break the cycle of poverty for our most vulnerable neighbors – but we can’t do it without you. Together, we will fight poverty at its source by focusing on long-term solutions in education, housing, and financial stability to solve the fundamental problems facing our most vulnerable neighbors in L.A. County.

Feb 7, 2020 How many of you know this about Kobe and His family? Why is it we don't take time to get to know each other and be part of a change like some did and do for the vulnerable, and the voiceless?? It is always after we lose someone we know what they have been doing ...I hope and pray this will inspire not only the Nine souls on that foggy and gloomy Sunday, but those of us who lost loved ones honor them by helping the movement in addressing the issue of Homeless. https://youtu.be/FZDMmALM8Tg https://youtu.be/64K7HmLM54Y https://youtu.be/Vbp2eZ7b45I https://spectrumnews1.com/ca/la-west/homelessness/2020/01/31/kobe-bryant-s-passion-to-fight-homelessness
